I talked to a Jewish holocaust survivor, she seemed a rabid leftist. I asked her if something like NAZI Germany could ever happen in the United States.
Her answer was: No, it could never happen here. Things are different here.
We are also dealing with the very strong tendency of people to vote against their own best interests. Jews should by all logic be conservative Republicans. So why do a strong majority vote for socialistic and pacifistic positions? It makes no sense. Judging by the Israeli press, the Israelis are more and more impatient with American Jews, who just dont seem to get it.
I think that the explanation is that most of the Jewish population in America came from Europe at a time when socialistic ideas were all the rage. They have ever since acted like living fossils, applying the same emotional and intellectual habits that they had in the 1890s. To most of them, this is progressive.
People in groups change fundamental political ideas as slowly as they change religion. Immigrants change first their clothing, then their language, eventually their food, and finally their religion. Many Jews were already on the verge of dropping religion when they got to America, because it was losing traction already in the Europe they left behind. The substitute was politics, and so they are politically focussed on the left end of the spectrum except for many brilliant and more alert among them, who have changed their thinking. It takes much strength of character to do that, but it has given us some of the best conservative thinkers and spokesmen on the scene.
“Her answer was: No, it could never happen here. Things are different here.”
Quite a few people fell for that one. People thought a
tyrant like the Obama would never happen either.
