Wary of a more muscular Russia and China, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said Saturday the Pentagon will make a new push for fresh thinking and creative ideas about how the U.S. can keep and extend its military superiority despite tighter budgets and the wear and tear of 13 years of war.
Hagel announced a "defense innovation initiative" that he likened to historic and successful campaigns during the Cold War to offset military advantages of U.S. adversaries. He described a "game-changing" strategy to sharpen American's military edge in the face of budget impasses on Capitol Hill.
"We must change the way we innovate, operate and do business," he said in remarks prepared for a defense forum at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
In a memo to Pentagon leaders in which be outlined the initiative, Hagel said the U.S. must not lose its commanding edge in military technology.
"While we have been engaged in two large land-mass wars over the last 13 years, potential adversaries have been modernizing their militaries, developing and proliferating disruptive capabilities across the spectrum of conflict. This represents a clear and growing challenge to our military power," he wrote.

I just saw Chuck Hagel saying the same thing on the news. My reaction was - blah, blah, blah, redirection. How about just bombing the hell out of ISIS and killing as many Jihadists as possible. No innovation required for that.
Democrats love to invest in technology - it’s much less expensive than actual hardware. But technology only wins when it is converted to real hardware, and that is were the expense comes it. In the past it has taken a Republican to make that investment.
The USA political elite need to revise the fundamental policy of all branches of our government to be about advancing the liberty, security, and prosperity of the American citizens, not the rest of the world.
I have a long-standing personal rule to always point out that Hagel is an imbecile.
Game changing technology? Continue to develop and field SDI and associated laser tech.
So far, treasonous Obola and drunk Hagel
have been importing Ebola and criminal illegals,
while making up flammable boats and stupid ROE.
The game changer would be the US Military
arresting both for treason.
Let’s start with a new SECDEF ...
Game-Changing Military Innovation?==> Stop Training And Arming Muslim Jihadis And Terrorists <==I'VE GOT IT!!
THE SOLUTION:
Technology and weaponry are fine, but to ignore the people who use it is foolhardy. Our military was always about the commitment of the men, and later, women who used the weapons. Today it’s a mirror of the racism, sexism, etc., obsessed and ill suited for leadership people in charge.
No. I don’t want zer0 to have any more military expertise than he already has to use against our allies or to help ISIS
Sopwith Camels, sabres, plentiful multicolored ribbons, pink uniforms, big hats ... all on the table as viable military game changers ... as the military budget continues its slide toward zero.
The best and most cost effective innovation the military needs is a return to the concept of total warfare ala WWII. This nonsense that has been in place since the Korean War of fighting just long enough to affect a desired political outcome of the moment has cost too many lives and too much money resulting in no permanent changes on the ground leaving us in worse shape than we were in in the beginning.
We’ve been down that road several times since 1951...
Kicking out the queers would be a good start.
why? what’s the point? every time we spend the bucks to get an edge in military technology ... WE GIVE IT AWAY!!!!
If we had kept all our advances to ourselves these past decades ... we could have ruled the ruled for 1,000 years before the rest caught up!
Looking for game-changing technology begs the question: what good is it when we will allow the Chinese to steal all the R&D at much lower cost than we spend developing and testing it?
Since we borrow Chinese funds to pay for our weapons development that they quickly copy, aren’t the Chinese in a sense just outsourcing their R&D to us? Would we be better off NOT creating new weapons for them to exploit?
Best innovation would be actual security. But this administration IS dedicated to transparency in this area.
Our local police have looser rules of engagement on us than soldiers in a war zone fighting enemy troops. That is why we no longer win wars.
The first casualties should be the lawyers and political minders
Attack, attack, attack......... concern for innocents that are not innocent must be dropped
What the US needs is leadership for its military, not the radical in the White House, Staff Sergeant Hagel and certainly not the boot licking, career first Generals running the show.
