“nipping off down the other end of the pitch to ring each other and scream down the phone.”
Once again, I read a British paper and do not have a clue what they are saying. Would someone out there in please translate this for me?
Two nations, separated by a common language.
Football- soccer
Nipping off- taking a little time off from another task
The pitch- the sports field
To ring-to make a phone call
Scream down- speak loudly at the other end of
The pitch is the soccer field. Basically i think it is saying that when they won the two were at opposite ends of the field and they ca.led each other and were screaming with joy about winning the lottery
Something about “playing” hooky or not paying attention to.....something to call each other and talk excitedly....I think.
Going down the other end of the field of play to phone each other and scream down the phone.
