Effort to block Obama's immigration executive action gains momentum

A strategy recently floated to block President Obama’s expected executive action on immigration is now gaining traction on Capitol Hill.

More than 50 House Republicans have signed a letter asking the leaders on the House Appropriations Committee to include language in the upcoming spending bill that would preemptively block funding for Obama’s forthcoming executive order, which many believe might involve deferring deportations.

The letter asks for an omnibus spending bill “to prohibit the use of funds by the administration for the implementation of current or future executive actions that would create additional work permits outside of the scope prescribed by Congress.”

Senate Democrats would surely block such a bill and could therefore pose a risk of another government shutdown.

Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.) circulated the letter and sent it Thursday morning to House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) and ranking member Nita Lowey (R-N.Y.).

Democrats need White votes more than Republicans need Hispanic votes.

No immigration bill should pass without a prohibition against voting by those who came here illegally.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_order

“United States Presidents issue executive orders to help officers and agencies of the executive branch manage the operations within the federal government itself. Executive orders have the full force of law[1] when they take authority from a power granted directly to the Executive by the Constitution, or are made in pursuance of certain Acts of Congress that explicitly delegate to the President some degree of discretionary power (delegated legislation). Like both legislative statutes and regulations promulgated by government agencies, executive orders are subject to judicial review, and may be struck down if deemed by the courts to be unsupported by statute or the Constitution. Major policy initiatives usually require approval by the legislative branch, but executive orders have significant influence over the internal affairs of government, deciding how and to what degree laws will be enforced, dealing with emergencies, waging war, and in general fine policy choices in the implementation of broad statutes.”

Presidential EOs are very rarely blocked or challenged. I highly doubt this will happen again.

Oh no! Not another government shutdown. Just like the liberal media predicted, the shutdown last year destroyed Republicans election chances for years to come. I don't think we can take another bad election like the one last Tuesday! /sarcasm off

Things aren’t so good at our haciendas in the homeland and we don’t need no stinkin’ non-tax payin’ freeloaders to come over here and eat up all our $hip, take away our yobs, overpopulate our lands, and take over our casas.
Sorry enough of this crap. Kick the CIC hard where it hurts. The POS should’ve been gone 5 years ago...

If enough Senators fear for their reelection in 2016 we might even be able to coax out the magic number of 67. Nixon had the courage to resign in the face of his loss of support. Obola never will.

There is no way in the world that blocking funding is going to get signed into law by the president. It is evidence of objections that it would be presented to him, but he won’t sign it, and the 2/3rds threshold to override it simply provides cover for all the democrats who can vote for the override so they can look good in their districts/states.

Every bill must go to the president for signature.

Although, they could do like him and claim they’ve patiently waited for him to respond by building the fence, and write a ‘congressional order’ signed by the Speaker and the Majority Leader to get the task moving again.

I don’t really see how that would be any different than what the president is doing

I think the simple words would be...you must identify yourself as an alien and show a passport of your native country. Then you get a residence permit, with one stipulation. You can stay up to ten years but you must be in a line with all the legally applied aliens who wait patiently in their own country. In effect, you go to the back of the line. No waivers or rush-up’s to the front of the line. If we reach ten years, and your number hasn’t been called....by signing the document, you agree to leave the US and wait patiently now in your home country. Kids in the American school when you get told to leave? Tough luck.

This way, we avoid any hint of racism or using Latinos as political toys on the American landscape.

Oh, and that ten-year period? You are not ensured or offered any state or gov’t welfare, subsidy, or health insurance mandated by the US gov’t. If you did pay into social security...we will refund that entire amount to you as you leave the country.

If true, this is good news. I seem to recall a clip of Zero saying that people would still have to learn English, and there would be certain criteria still laid out etc. The problem is... Who believes anything he/they say at this point? I mean, these are the same people who say it’s “impossible” to deport 10 million people, but almost in the same breath they will try to convince us they can track them to ensure they learn English, abide by the “rules...” What a load of BS.

"Senate Democrats would surely block such a bill and could therefore pose a risk of another government shutdown."

And I have no doubt the press will assign the "blame" for the "shutdown" to Democrats....right.

Immigrants, either legal or illegal can’t legally vote unless they are CITIZENS...

This HAS to be upheld...Voter fraud needs to be addressed and voter ID should be mandatory.

I don't see how waving the amnesty magic wand can be stopped by not providing funding for it.

Once his majesty obama says "illegals, you are now legal. By the power decreed to be by my crown, it is so." They can then apply for all the welfare goodies, why work..

Impeachment is the only answer.

Nice, but considering thatcaliph Hussein 0bama openly flouts The Constitution and has broken hundreds of other laws, how effective is this likely to be?

IMPEACH, REMOVE, INCARCERATE!
