Catholic bishops back Obama acting alone on immigration

The nation’s Catholic bishops are jumping into the increasingly contentious battle over immigration reform by backing President Barack Obama’s pledge to act on his own to fix what one bishop called "this broken and immoral system" before Republicans assume control of Capitol Hill in January.

In an unscheduled address Tuesday at the hierarchy’s annual meeting, Seattle Auxiliary Bishop Eusebio Elizondo, chairman of the migration committee of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, said the USCCB would continue to work with both parties to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

But, Elizondo said, given the urgency of the immigration crisis and the electoral gains by Republicans who have thwarted earlier reform efforts, "it would be derelict not to support administrative actions … which would provide immigrants and their families legal protection.

“Catholic bishops” do not appear to know very much about our country’s Constitution .

They don't care about laws. They don't care about the employment prospects of the flock that's here and they certainly don't care about blacks. Incoming Mexicans are Catholic. It's a demographic play. They want more butts in pews and more donations in the coffers. It's the religious version of what the Chamber of Commerce and Zuckerberg are trying to pull off. Strange bedfellows.

Many if not most Catholic Bishops are liberal dummies in my opinion.

Are the Catholic Bishops anti democratic?

Afraid the Catholic Church is more aligned to communism.

Here’s the issue as I see it. The bishops are concerned for immigrants for moral reasons. Dems want them here for the votes. Two different goals. The bishops better tread lightly working with Obama … he’s screwed them once, he’ll do it again.

But does immigration need an overhaul? No. We simply need to enforce the laws already on the books.

It sounds to me like Auxiliary Bishop Eusebio Elizondo is acting alone also.

The Catholics bishops in the U.S. have NEVER opposed any law on the grounds that it was unconstitutional. And there many they have lobbied for that WERE unconstitutional.

“Unconstitutional” is a category that simply does not exist in their minds.

And that is the reason Peter’s church is in a free-fall while other religions are gaining converts.

There they go again.. getting in tough with their inner communist. These a-holes backstabbed America, aligning with the Soviets in the 1980s, arguing for a nuke freeze.

Yep. Support for leftist causes in the 1980s was in large part why I left it.

This was one of the reasons I left my church. The Priest told us all to pray for our elected leaders so they would grant citizenship to all the ‘displaced’ people in America. The other reason was his insistence we embrace our Muslim brothers and sisters. Buh Bye.

One auxiliary bishop says something, and suddenly he speaks for the whole episcopate?

Obviously so...He's speaking for the Catholic Bishops of the United States...Likely speaking for your Bishop as well...

Elizondo has always been an extremist for unrestricted immigration.Makes me wonder if he is legal himself.

Where does the Church teach that it is licit to encourage tyranny in order to achieve an idiosyncratic vision of “social justice”? The catechism teaches that “the end does not justify the means”. To Catholics whose bishops are attacking the common good and who are encouraging tyrannical acts by the Executive Branch: Starve the beast. Send your donations to apostolates and charities which are out of the reach of the diocesan machines of these misguided bishops.

COMPENDIUM OF THE SOCIAL DOCTRINE OF THE CHURCH

d. Rights of peoples and nations

157. The field of human rights has expanded to include the rights of peoples and nations: in fact, “what is true for the individual is also true for peoples”. The Magisterium points out that international law “rests upon the principle of equal respect for States, for each people’s right to self-determination and for their free cooperation in view of the higher common good of humanity”. Peace is founded not only on respect for human rights but also on respect for the rights of peoples, in particular the right to independence.

Typical leftist catholic buttkissing. That church is so far from a leadership position in this world it isn’t funny. Just a bunch of communists in frocks.

Bishop Elizondo is a leftist who ignores the law and the constitution to reward lawbreakers who jumped the line in front of law abiding legal immigrants. He needs to be reassigned elsewhere, and a Bishop who understands and obeys the laws put in his place. What does he say to those who obey the immigration laws on the books?

There is no urgency and there is no crisis. The illegal influx has been going on since 1988. Time to stop the leak, and then deal with the illegals here in a compassionate manner that is fair to those who waited in line. Something is not right here!
