Chinese hack U.S. weather systems, satellite network

Hackers from China breached the federal weather network recently, forcing cybersecurity teams to seal off data vital to disaster planning, aviation, shipping and scores of other crucial uses, officials said.

The intrusion occurred in late September but officials gave no indication that they had a problem until Oct. 20, according to three people familiar with the hack and the subsequent reaction by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration or NOAA, which includes the National Weather Service. Even then, NOAA did not say its systems were compromised.

As for hacking....China and Russia have teamed up on pretty much everything now that Obama and the EU pushed them together.

What unites Russia and China is a shared Communist totalitarianism. Defectors like Anatoliy Golitsyn have long noted that supposed Sino-Soviet splits were manufactured at the highest levels, part of a sissors strategy with the West. The fall of the Soviet Union was only an outward show. The economy there is still controlled by KGB stooges who live under rules that are not published publicly. Capitalist reform is only a deception to gain western technology, more time, and to disarm the west.

The EU and the the United States are merely the object of their aggression. The United States in particular stands in the way of unlimited Sino-Russian expansion.

Obama and EU are sitting on his hands while Asia and Russia are creating jobs and industry.....throughout the East...and they’re moving in this window Obama and the EU have handed them.....

The Chinese and Russians are corrupt to the core. What they create, they fornicate with and dirty it all up. Their industry is merely a weapon and a vehicle to spread more of their corruption to achieve only one goal: Communist victory over the west.

If you go take a look at this map, you will see the polar vortices are common, every darn day. There is a big one between Greenland and Spain, but the MSM hasn't mentioned it. Yesterday there were at least 4 around the South Pole.

“NOAA officials declined to discuss the suspected source of the attack, whether it affected classified data...”

What kind of “classified data” could NOAA have? Secrets that allow them to be 50% right?

If they provide a better forecast and do not say anything about global warming causing winter then I do not mind them hacking into the weather computers.........

They’re just practicing for when they want to get into some vital information. Then there will be no warning and no turning back.

So will someone explain to me what the Chinese have to gain by hacking the weather satellites? Is it just (and I don’t really mean just, as in it’s no big deal) that they could potentially put our systems offline for forecasting large storms, etc.? Or is it more far reaching than that?

There seems to be a lot of hacking of systems lately. Why not just wait to hit them all at once? Or do we think that is the ultimate goal?

They probably assume that not everything is as it appears or is as it is labeled, and figure our weather satellites are dual-purpose and used for more than just collecting weather data. And they are probably right, because as expensiveas it is to send up a payload, there is very good reason to maximize what you can get for every pound that rides the rocket.

Even if nothing more than a weather satellite taking high res imagery of the oceans, access to it means access to the locations of surface ships. Ships leave wakes that are indicative not only of location but also of direction, for example.

And perhaps other folks than the Chinese want to have a cheap space program of their own by just hijacking our data while we foot the bill instead of going through the trouble of learning how to launch rockets and calculate orbits.
