Suburban DC school district takes Christmas off calendar after Muslims complain

ROCKVILLE, Md. – Christmas is now just December 25th in the Montgomery County school district.

The suburban DC district stripped Christmas and Jewish holy holidays from its official calendar after Muslim parents complained.

But that’s not good enough as they say the move does “nothing to gain parity and a day off for the Muslim holiday of Eid,” according to WTOP.

“Equality is really what we’re looking for,” Saqib Ali, co-chair of Equality for Eid, says. “Simply saying we’re not going to call this Christmas, and we’re not going to call this Yom Kippur, and still closing the schools, that’s not equality.”

CAIR isn’t happy either.

“What’s really concerning to us is that similar conditions weren’t placed on any other faith community,” a representative of the group, Zainab Chaudry, says, the station reports.

The district is attempting to decouple the breaks from school and religious holidays by calling them “winter break” and “student holidays.”

But school board member Michael Durso says unless the Muslim’s complaints aren’t addressed, “it comes off as insensitive, and I just think we cannot afford to be in that light.”

According to NBC 4, school employee Samira Hussein has campaigned for 20 years to have the Muslim holiday added to the school calendar.

“The Eid is just the same exact as Christmas day or Easter day or Yom Kippur,” she says.

School representatives note absenteeism isn’t much different on the Muslim holidays.

“The absentee rate on the Eid holidays, when they’ve fallen on a school day, haven’t been considerably higher or lower than it is on any other given day,” spokesman Dana Tofig tells the news station.

The Washington Post reports the board 7-1 to stop recognizing the Christian and Jewish holidays.

“This seems the most equitable option,” said board member Rebecca Smondrowski, who proposed the idea, according to the paper.

Capitulation. They bomb our twin towers in an act of terrorism and in 13 years, we're accommodating their demands to erase recognition of our Country's Christian foundation.

When history looks back on all of this and if it does so with honesty, the 20/20 hindsight will be painful. It could have been easily avoided and it was the cheapest military incursion in history. Points for the opposition in undermining our top tier and forcing Americans to finance their aggression toward us through liberal diversity.

You are now making a completely contradictory statement as to what you posted previously. If you do not believe that this country was founded as a Christian nation, then you would have to be in denial regarding Unalienable Rights given to us by our Creator.

That said, I do agree that as a nation we are straying from God’s path in many ways and I fear for our future progeny.

You're confused. Just because there are some Christians in America; just because God has blessed America on behalf of those Christians; that fact does not make America a "Christian" nation.

To suggest that a nation that has murdered nearly 2 million unborn children every year; a nation that shamelessly promotes homosexuality and gross immorality; a nation that fellowships evil; to suggest that such a nation can possibly be Christian is preposterous.

Such a proposition can only be proffered by one who is totally ignorant of plain Bible teaching. I suspect the two of you belong to some fringe religion claiming some affinity to Christ.

Matt 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Matt 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

People like you clearly have little understanding of the Spirit of the Gospel.

Regardless, happy holidays.

I "lived" in monkey county, maryland ( THE Freak state) for 30+ years. I escaped a few years ago...to sanity. monkey county is the bulls eye for multiculturalism/liberalism/insanity. Nothing those degenerate fools do would surprise me...nothing. They revel in being politically correct and LIB. They deserve what they get. It is truly hopeless there. Escape while you can. Have a Merry Christmas!

If you are going to drag out a month old thread to attack me as a heretic, you should actually read the full thread.

Once again you are conflating the “present” with the founding. If you read my post #62, that might clear things up for you.

I would expect that anyone that is so derogatory to the US and to fellow FReepers, would have taken that month to thoroughly think about the issue. Clearly I was mistaken.
