Why Obamacare risks falling into a ‘death spiral’
The Washington Post ^ | November 10, 2014 | Dana Milbank

Posted on 11/11/2014 11:36:57 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

So it turns out there is an Obamacare death panel after all.

It has nine members and it operates out of a marble building directly across the street from the Capitol.

When the Supreme Court on Friday announced that it would take up another challenge to the Affordable Care Act in March, it delivered the threat of two mortal blows to the signature achievement of the Obama presidency.

First, it raised the possibility that the justices, who narrowly spared the law in 2012, will in June come out with a new ruling that would dismantle the law on different grounds. But even if the justices make no such ruling, the very act of taking up the challenge to the law will itself undermine the law. The justices announced their decision just a week before the open-enrollment period for 2015 begins — and the looming possibility that the high court will strike down the law will probably deter those who are considering signing up for its coverage....

I wonder if voters will ever wake up to the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers.

A death panel to the death panels. But actually, the IPAB aka death panel was actually passed under the stimulus plan for Medicare patients.

Except that Gruber took that liberal excuse (sloppy wording) off the table in saying the law’s wording is very precise to skirt/hide the tax issue and also to ensure state compliance with exchanges.
They just outsmarted themselves as they never figured states might actually have their own opinions about the 2,000 page Fed-Big Brother monstrosity.

“because it has behind it a fiat currency that can be printed at will, and a Federal Reserve that can monetize any debt and centrally-control interest rates.”

Actually, THAT is a death spiral too, just a slower and boarder one.

“and the looming possibility that the high court will strike down the law will probably deter those who are considering signing up for its coverage.”

That is complete nonsense. The projected 30% drop in signups has long been known before the Supremes decided to hear this particularly issue. The poor signup rate is because obamacare exchange policies are extremely poor values, with most people having to pay $12,000.00 annually in terms of premiums and deductibles before their first penny of medical care is paid for by insurance. And add that on top of the fact that these policies have health care networks worse than Medicaid.

Most people in the U.S. simply don’t have a spare $12,000.00 a year lying around to pay for something as worthless as obamacare.

And this today on fox:

One thing that really irritates me about Fox News site is they allow no comments from readers. Heck, even the frauds at SeeBS have a comment tab on their website. Kind of makes you wonder whose side Fox News is on?

Dana Milbank is an “I hate Republicans” leftist. He is upset that the Supreme Court will rule this obamanation of a law unconstitutional, which they should have done in the first place.

Caught part of Limbaugh today. He was talking about this article.

The "narrowly sparing the law" was because it was the signature "achievement" of the nation's "first black president", according to Limbaugh, and not because it was Constitutional, no matter calling the "mandate to buy" a tax or a fine...

(Personally, I thought Roberts caved because of what the NSA had on him.)

Any body else having trouble locating Milbank's explicit second point/item? He said "Firstly", and I can't find a "Secondly," or "Then" or even "Lastly" to close out the expectation Milbank attempted to enumerate.

Good riddance to Obamacare. Now maybe we can have a real solution like allowing insurance providers to sell insurance polices across state lines on a regional basis, which will tremendlously increase price competition, lowering premium prices for everyone.

The liberals there are angry at the GOP because they say this is just a technical error in the text of the law, the intention is clear how the exchanges were to function, etc.

Nope. Gruber's candid remarks show that it was not a typo, but a failed political calculation (as if that was not already obvious). The 'Rats thought the provision would force the states to set up exchanges and to pick up some of the cost out of state revenue. They failed to anticipate their bluff being called.

And that the GOP is at fault because a simple one page bill would clarify the Obamacare language

Indeed. Hopefully, the Court will agree and let the Congress fix its typo. Now we just have to put a price on the fix. Start with "Select all; delete"!

As long as ObamaCare exists, the Democratic party will be in a death spiral.

Once the new Republican Congress convenes in January, the House will vote to repeal ObamaCare, and the Senate will approve the House’s bill.

Whether or not Obama vetoes the bill, all Democratic House and Senate members who vote to continue ObamaCare will be in the same doomed boat as their many former Democratic colleagues who approved the original ObamaCare bill.

The question for the Senate Democrats up for re-election in 2016 will be: Do you want to spend the next two years of your lives like Mary Landrieu and Kay Hagan spent the last two years of their lives — namely, unsuccessfully fending off Republican opponents with no hope of winning your elections even if you’re willing to disgrace yourselves by pandering to the Black vote?

Either ObamaCare will die by repeal before the Supreme Court acts in June, or the Democratic party will die if Democratic Senators refuse to help override Obama’s repeal veto. And Hillary’s and other Democrats’ 2016 presidential hopes will also die, because if ObamaCare is not repealed, they will be forced to take a stand on It — which will result in losing most of the country if they support ObamaCare, and losing most of the Democrats if they don’t support it.

Bad health care reforms based on lies by liberal elites who don’t give a damn about poor people except as a way to keep themselves in power...

What could go wrong?

Meet the only real journalists on this issue... someone who puts the Washington Post to shame:

“Weinstein ... was stunned at the reaction. Why did he keep finding Gruber gaffes? Why didn’t the press glom onto this stuff first?”

Don’t worry, the Congressional Republicans and the Supreme Court will find ways to save it.
