Obamacare may not have enough enrollees to stay solvent
Washington Times ^ | November 11, 2014 | Tom Howell, JR.

The administration on Monday said fewer than 10 million Americans will enroll in Obamacare’s health exchanges this go-around, well short of the 13 million target congressional scorekeepers deemed critical to its economics, suggesting another rocky rollout in the law’s second year of full operation.

Policy advisers at the Health & Human Services Department estimated that 9 million to 9.9 million people would enroll through the exchanges — or only a slight increase over the 8 million that the administration says were active at the end of the first enrollment period this April. The Congressional Budget Office, which is the government’s official scorekeeper, had predicted the law would need 13 million customers on the exchanges.

I just tried logging in using my User ID from last year.

This is what I got:

“An internal error has occurred. Please try again by clicking the back button to reload the previous page. If this error happens again, call the Health Insurance Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596. TTY users should call 1-855-889-4325.

They have exactly 85 hours until the go-live.

This oughta be good.

Solvent?

The most idiotic word I could think of when examining a government program. If Obama care was a business that word might be acceptable. But as a drain on human resources (tax money) there is no way it should be applied.

Obamacare is going bankrupt.

Obamacare will never go bankrupt as long as the government has tax money to very cleverly pay the insurance companies. Subsides go in the pocket of those companies while they continue to make us believe it is to help the poor afford insurance.

A liberal attempt to nationalize a business and drown it in government bureaucracy doesn’t work?
Hell you say!

"Fewer than 10 million projected; 13 million needed to stay solvent. Well then, let it die."

All part of the plan. You need a crisis to move towards single payer don't you think?

Someone at this paper is delusional enough to think that Obama ever wanted it to remain solvent.

Setup roadblocks to make people signup.

Someone talented with photo shop could have fun editing a photo of Nazi's herding people into gas chambers to Obambots herding people into 'healthcare exchanges'.

re: Obamacare may not have enough enrollees to stay solvent

Stupid headline for the Low Information crowd. No government program is solvent. All government programs are sustained by money confiscated from willing and unwilling taxpayers.

It drives me crazy that the media is stuck talking about the lack of enrolees as if the product just isn't refined enough to sell>

It's the law, ferchrissakes!

And still people refuse to sign up. That's what they should be reporting.

I can’t imagine how screwed up the IRS is going to make doing a tax return for Obamacare “customers.”

People can opt out by paying a fine. Which is cheaper than Obamacare premiums.

It kinda defeats its purpose but as Jonathan Gruber would have said, without an escape hatch built-in, it would never have passed.

If the SCOTUS rules against federal subsidies in states that have not set up exchanges, the demise of this travesty will come fast and furiously.

The lion’s share of initial participants are receiving subsidies. Without those, they will drop out of the system.

A bit off the subject, but some enterprising Republicans need to enroll their own architects into devising a plan to get us off of Obamacare when the demonic is gone. With all the talk about immigration reform going on, we are getting distracted. What we really need is health care reform that undoes the reforms done by Obamacare, undoing the damage while not doing even more damage. The people who want to ban it need a way of not crashing insurance altogether. That would help get the non ban-its aboard.
