A conventional wisdom bubbled up among media people like myself about the tenor of Republican Dan Patricks message on immigration. We concluded that his hard-edged border security focus in his campaign for lieutenant governor was going to stampede Hispanic voters into the waiting arms of Democratic statewides.
Wrong. Or at least partially wrong.

“Why do people believe that Hispanics in the U.S. think that it is ok if the person who burgles their house & rapes their daughter is Hispanic?”
Because that is pretty much how black leaders see things. They have a MUCH BIGGER PROBLEM with a 20 year-old-thug being put to death (or even being put in jail) for raping and killing an 80 year-old black woman, then they have for the crime itself.
It’s easy to think the same for Hispanics - but too bad, Hispanics aren’t about to be led around so easily, at least legal Hispanics.
“All Latino voters: Patrick 46%”
That essentially says that Hispanics are a non-factor in deciding elections, as long as the Republicans continue to play their cards left.
So the Dems are left with blacks, and having aborted most of their kids, not a whole lot of blacks. And they are left with whites, but they are now losing that vote 75/25.
THEY ARE FINISHED...unless we implode (again).
“Why should this surprise anyone
because of all the spin on this issue about how Democrats are setting themselves up for huge gains due to demographics. Now here’s an actual election result that puts a thorn in that argument.”
Perhaps now it’s time for our side to ASK QUESTIONS. Exactly who are these “Republican Advisers” (most of them gay, by the way) that have been telling us that Amnesty is our ONLY HOPE.
As far as I’m concerned, they have been outed as a FIFTH COLUMN and they need to be PURGED from the party. They are working for the Democrats and this election just PROVED IT.
Hispanic voters in Texas for the most part have become United States citizens because their families were here when Texas became a state or because they followed our immigration laws to become citizens. Those individual have respect of the law and disdain for those who have no respect for the law.
Hispanic men in Texas are also pro-life and pro-family. Van de Putte is pro-abortion which earned her shame among the Hispanics I know here.
Finally, the Democrats believe everyone is a single issue voter. They believe if they run a female that women will vote for her; if they run an African-American, people will vote for her; if they run a Hispanic, Hispanics will vote for her. Most voters are not one dimensional even though the Democrats who tend to be one dimensional hope they are.
No. It's exactly right.
Polling of legal Hispanics has always indicated they were largely anti-amnesty -- by about 2-to-1.
And why wouldn't they be? Their citizenship was earned -- either by generations past or by following the rules. Plus, illegals represent competition for the jobs that many of them hold.
All year long, I've been arguing that the best way for the Republicans to improve their performance among the Hispanic community is to adopt a strong anti-illegal stance -- secure the border, enforce the immigration laws.
Why this isn't apparent to the Republican leadership, I don't know...
Legal immigrants hate the illegals the media just talks up migration reform .
Yes, most Hispanic guys I know are "men's men." They are hold to the much despised "traditional" roles of men and women, and so do most Hispanic chicks I know.
Your comment points to a broader cultural phenomenon that could really be exploited by the GOP. People--males especially--are sick of the real gender war in this country: the War on Men. It's been waged for decades now in the courts, the schools, the media, et al, and we're damned tired of it. The war on men has wrecked families, stripped children of their parents, and denied deserving males of advancement and dignity. These new immigrants the Dems are so in love with tend to hold traditional views on these matters. That includes a high proportion of the females as well. If a candidate had the cojones to do so, he could draw on a huge well of justified resentment in growing numbers of men who are fed up with the way society favors women in nearly every forum, from the courts, to schools, to jobs, to damn near everything.
That is a fascinating story! And a inspiring one too, in this day of GOPe and RINOs.
Totally agree re the war on men.
I have read that Texas Hispanics are more likely to be conservative than California Hispanics. Can you educate me on this?
How do you feel about the Obama speech tonight?
(How do you feel about the Obama speech tonight?)
I couldn’t care less about anything that POS might say about anything!
What I DO care about is what he will DO other than speak! If he actually takes the actions that some have reported he will then he should be impeached in the House, Convicted in the Senate, and removed from office!
Do I think the pukes currently holding leadership positions in the GOP in Washington have either the balls to begin or the skill to carry out that process? ABSOLUTELY not!
