Allies of Kim Jong-un's ousted uncle among the victims of firing squads, some for watching South Korean television
As many as 50 senior members of the North Korean government and military have been publicly executed so far this year, according to South Korea's intelligence agency.
The victims of the purges - which the National Intelligence Service believes are continuing - include 10 members of the ruling Workers' Party who were executed by firing squad for watching South Korean soap operas, bribery or womanising.

North Korea ping.
There. Fixed it.
” One Life To Live”........
That is bad, I don't think that even happened in East Germany for watching West German TV.
although "Roommates" would be far better than anything East Germany had to offer.
I guess the Norks don’t like Psy and K-Pop either.
Kinky and strict
Man, what would they do if they found out someone was watching Judge Judy?
!!!
This is interesting to me.
Over the last few years I have had no cable service. I use the internet to view Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and until recently Red Box offerings.
I discovered South Korean soaps about six months ago. They’re actually novellas. They run from 16 to 21 shows, and cover a story line that is fulfilled by the end.
They’re certainly not deep subject matter, and sometimes can be painfully slow. Sometimes the plots lines are very thin. None the less, the actresses are interesting, and the story lines are okay.
I also find it interesting how Christianity pops up now and again. In one of them the actress had a night shirt that said, “Jesus, Save Me.” She wore it through a number of the shows at some point. They make other references to Christianity too.
At any rate, this sort of thing is worthy of someone being put to death over. I can see someone dying watching some of them (LOL), but being killed for it.
Wow, the wonders of Communism filtered through insanity.
Executed for watching soap operas.
South Korean soap operas are also very popular in Japan, although I don’t think anyone has been shot there over them.
There are travel agencies in Japan that specialize in bringing tourists to the settings of different South Korean soaps.
As far as I know there hasn’t been any interest in North Korean reality shows outside of that country.
Thanks for the mention. I didn’t realize that.
The shows are well done. Didn’t mean to put anyone off concerning them. They exhibit decent morals even though they cover some issues like murder, infidelity, and sordid family dynamics.
They do clearly depict right from wrong, and don’t get explicit in their scenes.
Kim-Jong-Caligula.
Cheese-gorging Type 2 Lunatic Douchebag
You’ll notice these people were also connected to the uncle who was executed. I think there’s more to it than soap operas.
And we have Barack Hussein-un.
I feel so bad for these people. No escapism whatsoever.
Sound a lot like the Mexican Novelas, I find myself getting hooked on them myself, the women are gorgeous.
