until the brits restore capital punishment and dole it out a few times, they’re second string. the germans gave up when Dresden got bombed, the Japanese surrendered after two atomic bombs were dropped. you have to display a willingness to apply overwhelming force to your existential threats, then you’ll be left alone. until a younger generation forgets the lesson. at which time you’ll go through the crap all over again.
I can’t imagine what would have happened. Do they really think this would have a been a good idea? Do they really believe the English would respond with, “oh my, ok, we’ll now submit before Islam”?
