Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) said on Friday he doesn't think an overhaul of Democratic congressional leadership is necessary after Tuesday's midterms.
But the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee said the party does have a problem with the way it communicates with voters.
"We have to get our messaging right, he said on MSNBC.
Democrats, he said, should better convey their positions on issues such as raising the minimum wage and reducing student loan debt.
At the same time, he backed Senate Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who have come under fire for larger-than-expected election losses.
Im comfortable with our leadership, Cummings said.
He also said he was heartened to see that the president had committed to keeping ObamaCare largely intact.
Cummings easily won reelection on Tuesday. Democrats were not so lucky nationally, losing control of the Senate and at least 12 seats in the Republican-controlled House.
Some observers have wondered whether that would lead to a shift in party leadership, but both chambers' top Democrats say they're staying put.
Pelosi announced this week that she will seek another term as leader. Reid did the same.
What are they doing? Arranging for an ORGY? At their ages?
Seriously, talk about the party of the OLD.
That's just it, they did get their message right.
Sure he’s happy with the current leadership,he doesn’t have to do any work!
cummings is a complete affirmative-action LIB loser. He should be prosecuted for his interference with committee IRS investigation.
Elijah is comfortable as house slave for the leftist elite. All they have to do is occasionally refer to him as a “civil rights pioneer” and ignore his racist nonsense rants.
Nancy and Harry...yes why not?Hey Dems, if you really wwant to change yourself... I would go for Bill Nelson for Senate Minority Leader and John Larson as House Minority Leader.
