Polls had shown Warner, a popular former governor who'd been endorsed by his Republican predecessor, ex-Sen. John Warner, with a hefty lead. But Gillespie led Warner for much of the night as returns trickled in Tuesday -- and ultimately ended up trailing by less than one percentage point.

Warner has already done a lot of damage to Virginia voters with his lock step support of Obama, but maybe the Republican majority in the Senate will neutralize Mark Warner.

Mark certainly took advantage of the turncoat liberal ex-Sen. John Warner. I was glad to see him retire. Still surprised that so many Virginians would vote for Mark Warner, another corrupt disciple of President Obama and Harry Reid.

Gillespie ran a good campaign and I will vote for him again in any future run for the Senate or the Governor’s office. More importantly, we put a bloody horsehead in the bed of that smug creep who is our senior senator. Gone is the illusion that he is a singularly beloved figure in Virginia who just happens to be our senator. Warner will hereafter be looking over his shoulder knowing we know he is just another duplicitous political hack.
