Republican Sweep Highlights Climate Change Politics In Alaska (Moo-kowski)
NPR News ^ | November 6, 2014 | Martin Kaste

On election night in a hotel ballroom in Anchorage, Alaska, Sen. Lisa Murkowski picked up a chair and waved it over her head.

"I am the chairmaaaaaaaaaaan!" she shouted.

The Republican takeover Tuesday night puts Murkowski in charge of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. That's great news for Alaska, which is always eager for the feds to allow more oil drilling up here. But what does her chairmanship mean for the other side of that coin — global warming?

At that same election-night party, Murkowski said she takes climate change seriously.

"I come from a state where we see a warming. We're seeing it with increased water temperatures; we're seeing it with ice that is thinner; we're seeing it with migratory patterns that are changing," she said. "So I look at this and I say this is something that we must address."

All is forgiven and forgotten, I suppose, since the cow is now being given a Chairmanship of a key Senate committee?

When I first saw that picture, my first thought was Mick Jagger. Whew! I thought something happened to him.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? What is that supposed to mean?

"since the cow is now being given a Chairmanship"

She was the minority chairman and now the majority chairman.

After Frank got the Alaska Natural Gasline Act of 2004 thru Congress, he ran for guv and the GOP allowed him to put his daughter into his seat in the Senate.

He negotiated the first pipeline deal with oil companies, which was call the Stranded Gas Act. Under that deal, Alaska would raise taxes on the oil companies but commit to not raising them again. Alaska would then use the revenue from the taxes to take a equity position in the pipeline. Sweet Deal.

But Palin came along and said the deal wasn't good enough, so she replaced Frank's pipeline with her AGIA which left open the possibility of a future tax increase and Alaska would not take an equity position. The oil companies told Palin to stick it because of the future taxes and refused to participate in Palin's pipeline, which withered away so she resigned rather than admit that she had screwed up.

So now, Parnell and Sullivan have the new pipeline plan in place and it looks like Frank's pipeline, plus they got Palin's windfall profit tax on the oil companies(ACES) revoked.

Everything Palin did as guv has been undone, and its like she never existed. Palin truly hates Parnell and Sullivan. And Lisa.

Is she aware of the monster historic winter storm that is about to slam into Alaska?

I was wondering the same thing. Hell, sled dogs could have gotten those ballots there in half the time.

I just heard on Hannity that Begich is refusing to concede even though he’s thousands of votes behind. He shouldn’t have ever been elected to begin with. The only reason the 2008 election was close enough for him to cheat his way in was due to the trumped up charges against Stevens. Those charges were dropped after the election. Subsequently, Stevens was killed in a plane crash, which he wouldn’t have flown on if he had won the election. So, to me, Begich also has blood on his hands from cheating his way in the first time.
