Thickening the plot is Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), who has set up an active war room dedicated to undermining Obama's plans on immigration, and is next in line to chair the Budget Committee. From that perch, he would have the power to set spending parameters that undermine the president's moves.
The GOP's victory afterglow had barely faded before the first major post-election battle between the President Barack Obama and the new Republican Congress began to take shape on the explosive issue of immigration.
Incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), striking an otherwise conciliatory tone, made amply clear that Republicans will fight Obama's planned moves to ease the threat of deportation for up to millions of migrants who are low on the priority list for removal.
"Its like waving a red flag in front of a bull to say, 'If you guys dont do what I want, Im going to do it on my own,'" McConnell said "I think it poisons the well" for legislative action.
The same afternoon, Obama was equally clear he won't back down on his promise to act on immigration "before the end of the year." He stressed that the new Republican Congress could supersede his actions by passing immigration reform, which he said he prefers, but vowed not to wait as problems linger.
"I've shown a lot of patience," he said, calling it "a commitment I've made."
Congressional Republicans won't take that lying down. The issue is a powerful one for the immigration-weary GOP base, which now feels it has a mandate to fight Obama's plans after Republicans campaigned against them and won.
McConnell pledged to use government spending bills to rein in Obama's immigration actions, "the way that you push back on executive overreach is through the funding process."

Notice how zero said - the NEW Republican Congress should pass immigration or he’s going to do it unilaterally before the end of the year. Well, Dipsh** prez- the NEW Republican Congress won’t even be seated until after January. He is being his usual, petulant, Mussolini self.
It means getting some volunteers and some paid aides and put them to work denying Obamas amnesty plans. You put them in a room with lots of phones and computers and they start organizing opposition. They present a coherent force and lots of man hours of work
OK, so they cut or eliminate funding in spending bills. I get that. But the problem is B.O. will veto, setting up a government shutdown which unfortunately never works well for the Repubs.
Am I missing something here?
Thanks for the info...sharing your post.
We've got to get through the outrages of the lame duck Senate. The GOP-led Senate won't be seated until January.
What a liar. He is going to act before the end of the year unless the Repubs come up with something. Repubs don’t take power until January.
This is why these Dems have been routed. You can fool some of the people............Their time ran out.
The House should only agree to a 45 extension of the FY 15 budget. We can’t wait til FY16 for this stuff to happen ...
He’s waited six years to do anything about this, yet he can’t wait a few months longer and actually work with the GOP on the issue? BS
McConnell is such an ass
“doing battle” with budgets and trying to withhold funding
is a LOSING strategy for a fudgey old bureaucrat. All it has done over the past 2 decades (or more) is let the democrats (successfully) paint the GOP as mean and heartless, and the democrats take it to the people and they get their funding. So the GOP LOSES on all counts.
Right Mitch? How’s that budget control thing worked for the GOP so far?
The battle is in going to the hearts and MINDS of the people with common sense. Reagan knew this.
He needs to invite other conservative senators and congressmen to the war room, to open up other fronts against Obama and the Democrats. Ideally, they should be slashing and burning their way through the government, putting the Democrats in a desperate scramble to save hundreds of thousands of their corrupt bureaucrats.
They need to subdivide budget bills. Right now budget bills are consolidated on the theory that the POTUS won’t veto them, but Obama is so arrogant that he will veto ALL of them unless he gets everything he wants and the Republicans get nothing. So, to Hell with what he wants.
Once subdivided, say making the budget for the EPA and the budget for animal shelters into two bills, congress can just refuse to pass the EPA bill, and send the animal shelter bill to Obama, that if he vetoes, he can be called an “animal hater”. A win-win for Republicans. And Obama gets nothing.

Post and send everywhere. PERIOD ( ; )
That is delusional. Any attempts to get rid of O anytime would have been called racist. Who cares?
And Ernst, and hopefully a few of the other new ones.
Dittos!! The Democrats rout in 2014 elections definitely changes the dynamic as far as Obama being able to use executive orders to Amnesty 11 million plus border jumpers
Hear! Hear!
No sanctuary cities, deport or jail all illegals.
No anchor babies.
Arm the National Guard with 50 caliber machine guns with overlapping fields of fire and shoot anyone trying to cross the border.
All immigration problems are solved. We also have just put 8 million American citizens back to work.
