Legalized marijuana spreads to two more states and D.C. Next up, California
The Chrisitan Science Monitor ^ | 11/05/2014 | Daniel Wood

Oregon and Alaska approved recreational pot use – following Washington State and Colorado, which did the same in 2012 – and the District of Columbia approved legal marijuana possession but not sales, though the move could still be halted by the new US Congress.

Though medical marijuana was rejected in Florida, the steps by Oregon, Alaska, and the District add momentum to a movement that is eyeing California next. Recommended: How much do you know about marijuana? Take the quiz

...

Yet marijuana remains prohibited by the federal government, and the issue could come to a head in the District of Columbia. Congress can veto any Washington, D.C., legislation, and legalization of marijuana there could force conservatives' hand. Alternately, the next president could take a firmer stand than President Obama has

I hate it when government gets smaller.

I like your thinking. Make the 10th amendment true states issue then ban abortions and same sex marriage.

They likely aren’t going to have a black candidate in 2016

It's time to start a draft Sheila Jackson Lee movement. She can match Hillary on the chromosomal test and trump her on race, and she's younger and more attractive. Plus she's angrier. She hits all the top democrat hot buttons. How can she miss?

Do believe you originally used the words “more dangerous”. I was not aware that cigarettes and fast food are classified as mine altering substances as are as alcohol or drugs.

When was the last time someone smoked a cigarette and ate a hamburger from Mickey D’s and then was driving a car which was involved in an auto accident in which someone was injured or killed?

I'd expect there are quite a few instances of that sequence of events happening.

If there were potheads that were not social parasites and did contribute to society, would you still hate them?

Why is the element that gets you high, bad?

If someone is in la la land, but not in pain land, why is that bad?

The main problem with the drug war is that the “cure” is far worse than the “disease”. Some of the worst excesses of government is a direct result of this phony “war”. I’m not a fan of any drug, and am reluctant to even take aspirin, but the insanity of the WoD drives government in a way that is more harmful to our republic than the drugs themselves would me.

And what kind of military might will we be in years to come if our soldiers are stoned and slow to react?

Why would they be stoned - are they currently drunk?

It’s going to open up a pandora’s box,

That box was opened when alcohol Prohibition ended - and nothing very scary came out.

I don’t care what anyone says.

That I believe.

I like the idea of taking this revenue stream away from the cartels but we have to know that they will recover that lost revenue by increasing/improving their heroin/meth/coke trade.

Cartels can force people to buy and use their products?

I think we're kind of misinformed about potheads being harmless. Very prevalent use by violent gangs here, Mexico and CA.

Heavily used by mohammadens in Afcrapistan and ME and everywhere in the violent regions of Africa.

And they were all choir boys before they fell prey to Demon Weed.

It wasn't sarcasm.

If the lil thuggies had been allowed to grow their own they would probably still be alive today.

Neither would have needed to go to the store. Neither would have been paranoid about being beaten and enslaved by the police state. Neither would have been able to do much more than change the channel with a remote.

But no, let's keep on doing it your way, and leave them no choice but to take outright poisons that turn them into homicidal killers.

So if it becomes legal recreationally that means I can walk into any dispensary without a doctor's authorization?

I wonder if there's any cannabis product that would keep me from waking up all night long.

Melatonin, chamomile tea, pills, alcohol, valerian root or various other "natural" methods don't do squat.

I don't believe lack of access to weed was a factor in either case. It is widely available at street prices that are comparable or cheaper than where it is legally available.

Brown was confronted after robbing a store of legal cigars and assaulting someone 1/3 his size. He then assaulted and tried to kill a police officer.

Martin attacked and tried to kill a neighborhood watchman who was doing his job, watching his neighborhood.

Martin was casing homes to burglarize after buying legal products used to make a concoction using codeine, known as purple drank, which he used heavily along with weed.

Lack of access to legal pot, or codeine for that matter was not a factor in either while consumption of the drug may well have influenced their violent behavior.

I thoroughly disagree.

How can shady black market deals for cash be compared to free vegetable garden produce? Have you been drankin?

2nd point. Neither would have gone to the store if they had the herb in hand at home. Why would they have wanted to? Maybe for chips and cookies.

3rd there are no current tests for "Spice" and "Salts", so there is no autopsy report on them, and they DO cause people to go homicidal! + Big Mike's lil friend probably snagged some while Mike was busting for ceegars.

Cannabinoids stay in our system because it's supposed to be there. It's not a foreign chemical. Our bodies produce it. It was designed for us by the one that designed us. It is the first Divine gift to mankind.

No, I use pothead the way I use alcoholic, its the people whose personality and daily activities are determined by the drug. If someone smokes once in a while and it does not effect them in any way I do not care, like the guy that drinks a beer after work but is not an alcoholic.

If you have a real problem sleeping at night. Go to a doctor, maybe you have a prostate issue or something. Natural is overrated.
