One good thing about a recount is that I understand that Fairfax has paper ballots. Here in the Richmond area, we used electronic machines.

Recount is also gonna happen in the AK/CO gubernatorial races.

They are that close.

Are they going to comb out all the felons who voted and those who voted twice, once in Maryland and once in Virginia ?

That is fairly common, I believe. Look at Obama’s numbers in urban precincts in swing states in 2012. He was getting sometimes 99% of the vote. Whether this indicates fraud or not is not a question I am competent to answer.

Huh. In 2012 we had some precincts where Obama won with 108% of the vote.

But nah...there was no fraud there.

"One good thing about a recount is that I understand that Fairfax has paper ballots. Here in the Richmond area, we used electronic machines."

Well, sort of; paper ballots that were fed into an optical scanning machine that did not provide any feedback of proper recording of the vote to the voter, only a thank you for voting message. I wonder if the recount will just be running the ballots through similar machines?

That is what concerns me. What good does it do to recount ballots if they are fraudulent? Is there any kind of verification/authentication process?

The election was the typical scenario.

The republican gets ahead in nearly all of the counties, and a handful of dem stronghold counties wait and see how many votes they need, and late at night they gradually report and the dems win by a few thousand votes.

Happened with Allen, Cuccinelli, and Gillespie last night. I believe I’m forgetting a couple. I believe they might have been a little blindsided last night, and wasn’t ready for it to be that close.

Frankly, I was VERY surprised by it myself. Gillespie ran virtually no campaign at all from what I could tell. I never saw the first Television add supporting him, only a couple of signs. I saw lots of adds trashing Gillespie. If the GOP would have spent a little money, he probably would have won. (just as with Cuccinelli)

If he’s within .5% in the official vote, which takes about a week, then the recount is free. If he’s not that close a recount won’t help.

The unofficial vote presently has him over .5% behind but that could change.

What a race!

Didn’t the GOPe cut off any money to Cuccinelli about 3 weeks out - no ads running in NoVa? A lot of folks (myself included) voted against Cantor as reprisal (among other things) although Brat was a great candidate & deserved the vote on his own merits. He’s going to be fun to watch - I hope the GOPe b@stards don’t ‘get him down’ too quickly.
