In Tarrant County, the state Senate seat once held by Wendy Davis has changed parties, with repercussions for the balance of power in the Texas Senate.

Republican Konni Burton took the lead in early voting and held on to it through the night, finishing with 53 percent and the win. She addressed a fired-up crowd at the Fort Worth stockyards.

"In Tarrant County, we replaced one of the most radical liberals in Texas with a conservative voice," Burton told supporters.

This was a multimillion dollar race, with money pouring in from groups outside Tarrant County, including the Democratic field operation Battleground Texas and conservative super PACs.

For Burton, this wasn't a night to offer olive branches.

"The people sent Battleground Texas and the Democrats packing," Burton said.

Burton, a tea party organizer, said she singled out the Tarrant County tea party with thanks for the win....

Ditto here.

I'd wager a month's wages that if our voter I.D. law had been allowed to become effective in 2012, Davis would not have been elected.

I don’t think that is biased; it’s reporting a fact. See the below extract from this linked article.

http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-Texas/2014/11/04/Tea-Party-Takes-Wendy-Davis-Senate-Seat-Konni-Burton-Wins

“...The Burton win inches Republicans closer to an upper legislative chamber supermajority. According to a rule in the Texas Senate, two-thirds of the 31 member Senate, which equals 21 senators, must agree before a bill gets to the floor for debate. Burton’s win gives the Republicans 20 seats and puts that supermajority goal into a visible range....”

The good news is not just that Konni Burton is a Republican but that SHE’S A TRUE TEA PARTY REPUBLICAN.

Hopefully over on the House side of the Texas legislature, once the new legislators take office, the conservatives will be able to remove the RINO Straus from his leadership position (to which he was elected by the ‘RATS in alliance with a small handful of RINOs).

Yes and no. Yes, that was the rule, for decades, and the Dems used it very effectively to prevent conservatives from getting very far with their agenda (having a RINO governor didn’t help much either).

However things are different now. We have Dan Patrick as Lt. Governor, which means that he runs the Senate here. He is a person that makes the Tea Party look like a Socialist organization and has no love for the 2/3s rule and has been ready to kill it for a decade...he’s thinking 60% is plenty, and the Reps are now beyond that number. Texas is poised to move hard-right now, and the only thing that can really stop it is a left-winger (hard RINO) running the State House - but I have a feeling that his tenure may end too.

That’s good news. Do you have anything on the shift in the percentage of Republicans (non RINO version) who will be making up the new Texas House in the next session? I haven’t been able to find that info yet. I know that a number of the current RINO members were successfully defeated in the primary and, hopefully, sufficient ‘RATS will also be defeated to end Straus’ leftist rule.

No, it seems to take longer to figure out the Texas House results than it did for Abraham Lincoln to get his election results.

And by the way, I’m only speculating regarding the House leader...but I know that Patrick does not like him (Strauss) and is probably working the phones to get a new leader in January.

Okay, that's just icing on the cake.

Hadn't even occurred to me to even pay attention to this race, but obviously Davis had to give up her old seat. Nice.
