Midterm Elections 2014: Louisiana Senate Race Will Go to a Runoff (no Mary Landrieu victory)
abcnews. ^

Posted on 11/04/2014 9:06:16 PM PST by dennisw

The Louisiana Senate race is heading into a December run-off as no candidate was able to secure 50 percent of the vote.

Based on preliminary exit polls, ABC News projected Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., will face-off against Rep Bill Cassidy, R-La., in the run-off.

Campaign committees and outside groups have already reserved airtime ahead of an expected run-off. The National Republican Senatorial Committee has set aside $3.3 million to run ads in the month ahead of the December run-off. The Koch-backed group FreedoM Partners has also reserved $2.1 million in television advertisement time ahead of an anticipated run-off in the Bayou State.

There were 3 republicans running?

Bill Cassidy with 40.88%, Rob Maness with 13.73%, and Thomas Clements with 0.96%. There was also a Losertarian, Brannon McMorris with 0.88%. There were also three other Democrats besides Landrieu, but each pulled under a percent. See results.

In the runoff, I'd expect almost all the Republican votes to go to Cassidy, and probably most of the Libertarian vote as well.

If Maness had bowed out, she’d be history...

How? Maness parachuted into the state after an Air Force career and claimed “tea party” bona fides. Many “low information conservatives” swallowed the bait and voted for him, regardless that Cassidy is plenty conservative.

Maness never lived here for any length of time, raised a family here, worked in any campaigns, or any such thing.

Yet lots of folks who should have known better voted for him. Of course, the drive by media also kept him propped up with plenty of free publicity.

Louisiana has a jungle primary. All may run but the winner needs more than 50%. It encourages people to be honest in their support on the first go. It was originally meant to keep Republicans down but now it’s encouraging Republicans to be conservative and keeping Dems at the edge as they no longer run state politics.

It’s a good system. Kept Cassidy on his toes.

Maness is getting with Cassidy and I seriously doubt Mary has a chance. Easily 4/5 of Maness votes will teansfer over. I can see it going 53/47 at best for her.

The biggest argument she had was clout and that just got knocked down a peg.

She is still going to lose, and lose big.

Maness didn’t give the Senate seat to the communists, so no harm done.

“I wonder if a lot of the money that’s been waiting on the sidelines for that runoff election will be off the table now. “

Especially since she polled only 42% against two Republicans. She’s toast, and it would be SO fun to watch her twist in the wind should her money completely dried up.

He has stated that it’s vital we get a change in Washington. He’s laid the foundation for endorsing Cassidy. Which is nice as he’s been trashed by a lot of Cassidy supporters. He knows that his personal feelings are not as important as the goal of getting Landrieu out.

I hope he runs for Vitter’s seat. He set the stage for it.

Agree. Mary was forced into a runoff in 2002 against Suzie Terrell. Terrell was strongly favored. On election day (a Saturday), Mary’s team emptied out every public housing complex, every laundromat, every New Orleans street corner and bussed them all to the polls. (Who knows what incentives were given?).

She ended up squeaking out a win. The point is, she will fight viciously for what she considers to be her entitlement.
