GOP governor ousted in Pennsylvania

Voters in Pennsylvania chose first-time candidate Tom Wolf (D) over Gov. Tom Corbett (R) as their new governor on Tuesday.

Multiple outlets called the race for Wolf immediately after polls closed on Tuesday evening.

With the loss, Corbett became the first governor in the state’s modern history to lose a reelection race.

Wolf, a longtime businessman who turned around his family’s cabinet company, had maintained a strong and steady lead in polling ahead of the election, though the incumbent’s campaign claimed that the tide was shifting and momentum had turned in his favor in recent days.

Corbett’s approval ratings in the state have lagged throughout much of his first term, amid cuts to education funding. He has also been unable to get pension reform passed through the state legislature, one of his key priorities.

Wolf had called for increasing funding for public schools and leveling a tax on natural gas producers in the state, which Corbett had opposed.

Corbett also approved a gas tax. A 27-cent per gallon increase for gas by 2017. Idiot.

Penn: what a bunch of utter masochists.

Obama promises to bankrupt coal? They elect Obama.

Now this —I don’t get it.

I hope for my family still in PA that the legislature keeps Wolf in check. I’m glad I’m in AL now.

Wolf is going to be a disaster for PA. He already said he wants to get rid of the 3.2% flat income tax for a new tiered progressive tax where if you make more than $30,000 a year, you will pay a higher rate. If you make more than $50,000 a year then a higher rate, and if you make more than $80,000 you will pay the highest rate.

He also wants to mandate a $15 an hour statewide minimum wage!

Businesses are going to be crushed.

If you’re going to govern like a Democrat, don’t be surprised when voters decide for the real thing.

Benjamin Franklin is rolling over in his grave. But, impressively enough, he doesn’t spill his drink.

Look on the bright side, Wolf will only have one term before he’s tossed out. Corbett should’ve stepped down months ago from the ticket.

Corbett helped to ram through the transportation, which included the .27 cent gas tax. It also included huge hikes in registration fees, inspection sticker, etc. Everywhere they saw a chance to raise fees, they did. Dramatically. Including 60 million in “walking around money”.
So, if you are to have a governor who acts like a Democrat, might as well get a democrat....
I am old school Republican, but even I didn’t like Corbett. Thought he was just another progressive RINO..

More voters in places like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh than out in the heartland. Pennsylvania is going through what New York went through 20 or 30 years ago
