I don’t care whether you’re Republican or Democrat, conservative or “progressive,” this should shock and infuriate you. If Parker’s allowed to get away with this while Democrats are in control, what’s to stop Republicans from doing the same thing when they run the show?

The author may have lived in Houston but he doesn't understand the local politics. The next mayor won't be a Republican just as the past mayors were not Republicans. Additionally, the next mayor will be selected by the Downtown business partnership just as the previous mayors were.

Our open elections do permit challengers (Democrat and Republican) but any time a Republican actually gets close to challenging the office, we are told that it is a "partisan" race. I've never voted for a winning mayor in this city.

Our next mayor could even be another homo (George Greanias). He's had a shot at it in the past. He weathered a sex scandal (surfing for "rent boys" from work as CEO of Metro on company time on company equipment) with support from the current mayor. It all depends on how much he's willing to play ball with the land developers and movers and shakers in this city.

Maybe she’s angling for an appointment in the Hillary Clinton administration.

I don't follow you. Republicans aren't allowed to run for office?

Republicans are allowed to run for office. Democrats are allowed to run for office of mayor too. There is no primary, it is an open election. There can be 3 Democrats against 2 Republicans. If there is a run-off, it is between the top two voter getters, regardless of party.

IF a Republican challenger enters, the media and Rat Party gang up to keep him out of the run off.

The Houston Comical/Chronicle is part of that Downtown business alliance. They editorialize in their news coverage (and an internal memo advocating such action was once publicly leaked on their webpage) to slant elections. The city only has one local newspaper and the local broadcast news doesn’t typically cover what goes on in local government.

As I recall, she was fairly low-key about it until she became mayor. I don’t live inside Houston proper, so I don’t follow those elections very closely.

Houston Mayoral elections are every 2 years, it’s up in Nov 2015 and this *itch is term limited.

An electable conservative Republican needs to be gearing up for the race NOW.

Yep....it is one year. She somehow needs to win that city election, to hang on, hoping that some Demo wins in 2016 and picks her up as a VP or cabinet officer.

The problem is...she has two boat anchors now. She pushed for public bathroom agendas (a comical political topic for national audiences), and pushed for sermons to be tossed into a court debate (a loser topic in the state of Texas).

Hard to figure how someone who had some potential for national office, got talked into the bathroom/sermon mess.

Not hard for me to believe. Here in New Jersey we elected a fat-ass, Lou Costello look-a-like f**king RINO. I voted for the guy the first time. He wasn’t going to make a sucker out of twice.

Texas is lost, so is California. The occupation of a foreign insurgency by mexico is too great to overcome. Wish it wasn’t so, but the occupied usually are in denial after a conquest.
