BREAKING: Judge eases some restrictions on Maine nurse being monitored for Ebola
Press Herald ^ | 10/31/2014 | David Hench

A judge issued a new ruling Friday that removes some of the restrictions placed on Kaci Hickox, the nurse who the state has been trying to quarantine since she returned to Maine earlier this week.

David Soley, a partner in the Maine law firm Bernstein Shur, which is representing Hickox, said that the judge issued a moving oral decision that sets conditions for Hickox that she has intended to follow all along.

The new restrictions call for direct active monitoring of her condition, coordination of travel with public officials and a requirement that the state be alerted as soon as Hickox develops symptoms, Soley said. It does not prevent her from leaving her house or being in contact with other people.

The new rules will be in place until a full hearing on the state’s petition, which is scheduled for Tuesday – Election Day.

“The judge issued a very beautiful and moving order in the case. I listened with tears in my eyes,” Soley said.

“He said basically we wouldn’t be here today but for a woman who cared for and comforted people who are stricken with a terrible disease,” Soley said, referring to Chief District Court Judge Charles LaVerdiere’s oral decision. “He was aware of misconceptions and bad science being spread from shore to shore.”

“The judge said people are taking actions out of fear that is not rational and inappropriate,” Soley said.

The people in the town could place their own restrictions on her if they were willing to suffer a little inconvenience for the ten days remaining in the quarantine.

Ever hear of shunning?

The people can do a version of this by "self quarantining" themselves and have no contact and nothing to do with her or her "partner." If necessary, they can close their businesses for ten days until November 10. Then we can see if her a$$hat lawyer can get an equally a$$hat judge to reverse that.

Hickox likes to keep repeating her new "scientific" mantra.

But no one seems to be pointing out that "scientific" cuts both ways. Saying that Kaci does not have Ebola before the incubation period is over is as un-scientific as saying she has Ebola before the incubation period is over. Scientifically speaking, no one knows whether or not Kaci has Ebola. Ergo, the precaution of imposing a quarantine for the length of the incubation period.

Duncan puked and shat around an apartment with 3 full time residents and 2,4,6, and 10 year olds visited him the day before and none of them were infected. If the chick gets symptoms then she can be locked up, but until then, it's pretty much pointless.

You will understand what I mean as Obola lets 150 random ebola land people into the country each day. Those are the people who should be kept out or quarantened, not a handful of HCWs. When those Liberians or whatever get out and die on the street as a bleeding mess then a bunch of people will die from that (e.g. first responders).

I wonder how much our sanitized environment, clean water, immunizations, etc, will impact the spread of a disease like that here one way or the other. In other words, are our immune systems more likely or less likely to resist this thing.

Wow.. your really stupid... ..she work in an environment where she was exposed.. her roommate came down with it other that were passed as not having it later came down with it....
... so however remote is the possibility and its very small it still not 100% guarantee .. a 21 day quarantine ..is one additional safety factor that is a small burden. ..

I say getting ebola about as remote as a cruise ship sinking on it maiden voyage...

Hubris claims about impossibly of thing happening so why take that simple extra precaution. .do have small history of problems ...

Its a super super small burden on her to isolate for 21 days ... with a massive upside for the general public if she wrong in her opinion she does not have it..

Im sure she right she doesn't have it.. but no one can say it a FACT YET.. till 21 day after..

P.S.. What the make a bet on her demands about smokers and thier second hand smoke?

Cagey Cretins

Blue Oyster Cult from Secret Treaties
written by Bouchard / Meltzer

Ooo Cagey, what you got?
What you got there, dummy?
What you got there, man?
Ooo Cagey, what you got?
What you got there, honey?
What is it, a worm?

Dumb clouds are raging
Stupid clouds at my door
Creepy weather coming
Coming ‘round my floor
Dumb clouds stay away
Don’t come back no more

Ooo Cagey, what you got?
Got an awful tummy
Oh no, it’s inflamed
Ooo Cagey, what you got?
It’s so lonely, honey
In the state of Maine

Dumb clouds are raging
Stupid clouds at my door
Creepy weather coming
Coming ‘round my floor
Dumb clouds stay away
Don’t come back no more

I’m graduating in one more term
Because I haven’t any time to burn
Repeating taste of high-heeled shoe
An eel is waiting under the train
Being chased around by the neighbor’s cat
Well, it’s so lonely in the state of Maine

Dumb clouds are ringing
Ringing in my ear
Mother’s wombs are crying
Ringing in my fear
Mothers never run
Except when rape is near

Ooo Cagey

Are you really sure you want Obama to exercise his executive power to force American citizens in to quarantine?

“Her roommate had it... she HAS it.”

That does not mean she has Ebola.
