In the aftermath of the World Series, in which the San Francisco Giants beat the Kansas City Royals, pure pandemonium ensued in San Francisco.

I hear ya..those Amish cities always over react...
Has there ever been a responsible mayor in that city?
:^D
Boo, Frisco!
I saw the Dodgers win the 1959 World Series on our 1952 Majestic black and white TV. Wally Moon, Duke Snider and Larry Sherry became household words in our neighborhood.
These people are loser throwbacks. This is like a vestige of the old Aztec tradition of killing the losing team after competitions. The property damaged and officers attacked are symbolic stand-ins for the other team, which must be destroyed.
It wasn't so bad. Only 40 arrests, despite tens of thousands in the streets last night. Only 9 police cars damaged. Three separate areas of the city had thousands of crazy revelers with bonfires and craziness. A couple years ago was much worse, including a new near-million dollar electric bus torched. Rioters are losing their touch compared to the last couple World Series wins.
When my oldest moved back to Cottonwood Heights from Oakland, he had a really hard time falling asleep, due to the lack of screaming crackheads and gunfire.
“It wasn’t so bad.”
That’s pretty pathetic when a night in which 2 ppl are shot, 40 arrests are made, at least 9 taxpayer funded police cars are damaged, fires in the streets, and traffic jams due to “revelers” are considered a “not so bad” evening. Utterly pathetic.
Considering many of the Ferguson rioters are brought in from places like Oakland and Chicago, it’s not a far stretch to think some Oakland ferals might be the cause of a lot of the trouble in SF.
When society destroys the ties that bind, when the leaders of a nation undermine familial bonds in order to spread dependency upon the state, when the state treats ancestral religious and cultural traditions as a threat to government power, then the people will follow their basic human natures and seek a new tribe to be a part of.
This isn’t new, it’s happened often enough before. Case in point, the Nika riots: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nika_riots
Anomie is NOT normal, it is not adaptive, and human nature rebels against a kind social, cultural, and moral vacuum. When the state, out of jealousy of power, destroys those institutions and philosophies that create strong, independent individuals, families and communities — effectively waging a war upon group identity — then what you will see is spontaneous (and often violent) attempts to recreate a group identity. And people love a winner.
Then there are cities where riots and destruction happen when the local team loses the championship:
Vancouver (Canucks swept by Bos.)
Oakland (Raiders lost Super Bowl);’03 I think
Word pandemonium used—given Pablo Sandoval, should be
Panda-monium
“Only two people shot”.............
Sounds like a day off in Chicago, they shoot more than that on their lunch hours.
Two people shot!! I hope they weren’t queers
I was thinking the same thing; in Newark NJ this happens regardless of who wins the World Series (or whether or not the World Series is even being played)...
Aw, it ain’t like that all the time!”
I especially remember two winters in KC. One was a January in the mid-1980’s when the temps did not get above 0 - that’s ZERO - the entire month and one where it had iced over so badly that my car slid down the hill on Johnson Drive sideways from the top across State Line and into Brush Creek at the bottom.
Really prefer not living anywhere where the temp is never colder than my age. Yes I’m a wuss!
