We used to quarantine people routinely who came this country to be sure they were disease free (what do you think Ellis Island was used for?)

Sometimes the draconian decisions that must be made are sadly necessary. I read of the entries of persons and their accounts at Ellis Island. Tuberculosis would, if detected send a person back to their own country.

One account had a man being told prior to landing that he must not cough. He had TB. He could not stop the coughing and dived out of the ship and was apprehended. He was making for shore. Sad though it is, one could imagine such a person boarding with a hard working family. The poor kids could then be smitten with this dread disease. His entry would have made America all the worse.

Some authorities have to make awesome decisions and then get vilified and it is not fair. (Excuse the rant).

Did not consider it a rant at all. Facts are hard things that some folks don’t want to face
