I Havn’t lived in N Philly for many years but when I drove my wife by maybe 20 years ago the area near Temple looked bombed our. I have read over the years that the neighborhood was jut plain dangerous for student to live and walk in. It sounds like Temple has the money to raze the slum housing and make it safe. That blacks will not be allowed is nonsense.

The very first woman the Inquirer highlighted in their big bad gentrification article last weeked was a Black landlord. She owns properties in the somewhat gentrified West Philadelphia area dominated by Drexel and Penn. She rents her properties to Black people only below market rate. That's illegal behavior but I don't imagine the DA will be knocking on her door anytime soon.

Temple is a decent university in an indecent slum - I go there often. Their student body is 60% white (a majority but not overwhelming). Their faculty is approximately 80% white. Most of the professionals I worked with at Temple are non-white (Korean, Chinese, and Indian mathematicians). It’s not whites at Temple who are keeping local blacks out of Temple, it’s local cultural pressures that are keeping local blacks from improving their lives.
If they don’t like gentrification, they should feel free to buy the buildings and keep them as low-income housing.
Otherwise, it is simply not their property.
Maybe they can form a new Republican and Democratic Party while they’re at it.
