Arab Spring Down: Islamists Lose in Tunisia

counterrevolutions against Islamist rule in Egypt and Tunisia. The Muslim Brotherhood fell hard and fast in Egypt. In Tunisia it’s been more of a slow drawn out fight ... now the Arab Spring wellspring has fallen.

A few days ago the New York Times was predicting that the Islamist Ennahda party would rebound and portraying them as the victims. So much for that.

...

Ennahda isn’t as done as the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, it could still climb back, but this is a severe blow to the political Islamists and their Western backers who hoped to propel them to power through elections.

Not long ago Tunisia was still being cited as a success story. Now the Islamists have lost there too.

Don’t wake up Barry. He’ll be so disappointed. This has got to be GW’s Fault. And where was Dick Cheney?

At this rate, the only country that will survive the Arab Spring will be America.

Or, as I like to call it, ISUS.

You’re missing the point. They lost.

FYI The stepped down earlier this year in the face of opposition to there rule by huge numbers of Tunisians. That is why an election was held.

I hear you, but I’ll give it 6 months before they have an active islamist revolution underway, however little supported.

Islamism is just that way: Qtub showed them opinion, elections, logic, etc. have no impact. The only thing that matters is capturing power and exerting it on behalf of Islamism.

The islamists lost an election. So? They don’t CARE about elections. Elections are a sign of apostasy.

You may very well be right. I wouldn’t bet you’re not. Thing is they will lose, its just a question of how long, and and what cost. Reason being people want to move forward not back, and Islamism moves people back.
