Likewise, and again contrary to popular assumptions, wind does not follow daily or even seasonal outputs. There were long periods in which the wind was not blowing even in winter, making it difficult to match generation of wind power to demand. The report concludes that covering these low periods would either need 15 storage plants the size of Dinorwig (a pumped storage hydroelectric power station in Wales with a 1.7GW capacity), or preserving and renewing our fossil plants as a reserve.
Most significantly, it found that the system would be only running at 90 percent of capacity or higher for 17 hours a year, and at 80 percent or higher for less than one week a year; conversely, total output was at less than 20 percent of capacity for 20 weeks of the year, and below 10 percent during nine weeks a year. The most common power output of this 10GW model wind fleet is approximately 800MW. The probability that the wind fleet will produce full output is vanishingly small, the authors note. The consequence is that many more wind turbines will have to be built than is often assumed, as the capacity of the fleet cant be assumed to be synonymous with actual output.
The findings will deliver a body blow to governmental claims that their current target of generating 27 percent of energy from renewable sources mostly wind and solar by 2030 is credible.

Expensive? Worth it (see below)
Unreliable? Nope, they reliably produce what they are intended to (see below)
Inefficient? Immeasurable (see below)

Because their primary output is
liberal self-righteousness!
And this is accomplished at the moment the lib in question thinks “I support ‘green energy’”.
Each kilowatt of wind turbine has to be backed up by almost a kilowatt of “normal” reserve capacity somewhere on the grid.
Plus, these wind turbines really do wreck the landscape, spoil the view, kill birds by the thousands, and damage the health of anyone near them.
Bolshevik! Wind turbines are both highly reliable and efficient.......................at chopping up birds and bats!
...Denmark, the world's most wind-intensive nation, with more than 6,000 turbines generating 19% of its electricity, has yet to close a single fossil-fuel plant. It requires 50% more coal-generated electricity to cover wind power's unpredictability, and pollution and carbon dioxide emissions have risen (by 36% in 2006 alone)...
Seems like the time to do this study would have been ... never mind.
The truth doesn’t matter. It’s GREEN energy! Liberalism isn’t about being right, it’s about being righteous and all that matters is how your viewpoint makes you feel.
As I’ve always said...what happens when the wind doesn’t blow and the sun doesn’t shine?
Fossil fuel back up.
So why bother?
Can be placed ANYWHERE. Rooftops, sides of buildings, open land, crowded land, even a 5' x 5' space in your backyard.
In the space it takes for a large 3 bladed wind turbine, you could install 100 of these.
Instead, we should squeeze fossil fuels for all they are worth over the next 100-500 years as we perfect solar/wind/tidal/biomass fuels and develop new energy sources like fusion, deep geothermal and microwave energy from orbiting arrays.
Now that’s interesting!
At least with certain wind MILLS you had a useful product.
In today’s world, at a maximum of 30 percent efficiency, we are literally throwing money to the wind.
Combine a no nothing Congress and an equally ignorant bunch of environmentalists masquerading as scientists, an unlimited budget mandated by rules of the EPA, and you get wind farms, and solar farms that are nothing more than expensive environmental eye candy.
Wind Turbines may be expensive, unreliable and inefficient, but I sure wish I had one in the back yard. That and a windmill to pump water. Then I would be in pretty tall cotton.
1. Windmills only work when the wind is blowing at a certain velocity. This does not happen 24/7/365.
2. Windmills only produce quality power within a certain band (wind speed). Outside this band, power has to be generated by other means.
3. There is no way to store the energy created by wind farms. It must either be fed to the power grid or backed-up 90 to 100 percent by generators running on other fuels: nuclear, coal, natural gas, diesel, etc.
4. Windmills are maintenance pigs that require servicing every 90 to 120 days — and only when prevailing winds or the weather allow.
5. Windmills kill large numbers of migratory birds and generate bothersome noise.
6. Windmills only last 20-25 years before replacement.
7. Windmills under the best conditions can only generate from 2 to 4 percent of needed power.
8. Windmill farms size and cost do not make economic sense because wind power is NOT free when it has to do useful work.
And they slaughter birds.
The vertical wind turbine are a design waiting for a government subsidy. According to turbine builder and author Ian Woofenden, “No vertical axis company has survived in the marketplace for any length of time. All long-term successful wind-electric manufacturers use horizontal axis designs. This is because they work.”
You’re arguing with the “windmill lovers” on totally the wrong plane.
They don’t care about any of those issues.
They just care that they feel good about themselves for supporting green energy and they care about the earth. You bringing up all those items just proves you don’t care about the earth and are a heartless bastard.
