Jimmy Carter: Leave gay marriage to states to decide
Washington Times ^ | 10/27/2014 | By Cheryl K. Chumley

Former President Jimmy Carter said the federal government really doesn’t have a role in ruling on gay marriage — that the issue should actually be left to the states to decide.

“I’m kind of inclined to let the states decide individually,” Mr. Carter said, during a WFAA-TV in Dallas-Fort Worth interview. “As you see, more and more states on deciding on gay marriage every year. If Texas doesn’t want to have gay marriage, then I think that’s a right for Texas people to decide.”

In 2013, Mr. Carter actually said that he supported nationwide gay marriage, Newsmax reported.

The States have decided - and then the judges have decided against them.

As you see, more and more states on deciding on gay marriage every year.

Gosh, Jimmy, didn't we have six or more of them deciding on it in just one week! Amazing how fast the STATES are deciding, isn't it? (Why is this old fool still around?????)

An overwhelming MAJORITY of Wisconsinites said, NO to gay ‘marriage.’ Judges reversed us a few weeks back.

So, Wisconsin DID decide - and it got us bupkiss!

I actually agree with Jimmuh. If the folks of Massachusetts want this obomination(sic), then it is none of the business of those in Alabama and vice versa.

Yup.

We decided against it in Michigan by a 60/40 margin several years ago and a federal judge allowed it for a day. We got a stay but now its up to the US supreme court no matter what we decided.

With a family member on the ballot next week for governor in Georgia, Mr. Carter is going to be careful with the words coming out of his mouth so that they aren’t too liberal.

Well, Jimmah, you are about 40 states too late.

Activist Federal judges have been legislating from the bench to make it legal, regardless of what laws the states or citizens of those states vote for.

==

Many saw that coming years ago. All the Libs/Leftists/Gays needed was one or two states to pass the law. Then, through the magic of the courts, activist judges could force it on all other states.

“If Texas doesn’t want to have gay marriage, then I think that’s a right for Texas people to decide.”

This old fool has no idea judges are deciding. What people want makes no difference.

Jimmy, don’t you have something better to do than bothering sovereign states...like, for instance, building some homes for the poor in Liberia?

The states did decide. The judges decided otherwise.

This is classic carter. He states something that is 100% meaningless in order to look symbolically good.

What he said is less interesting than why he said it. Why all of the sudden is a democrat getting cold feet about forcing homosexual marriage on states that voted against it.

There was no democrat saying this 6 months ago.

Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter have 3 sons, 1 daughter, 9 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 4 great-great grandsons and 5 great-great granddaughters. How about some of us ‘concerned citizens’ pick a Carter relative, and write a polite note, asking them to invite Granpa Jimmah over to the back yard patio for some hot coffee and almond pound cake.
Maybe install a podium in the vegetable garden, where he can practice his speeches that no body wants to hear.
