Here and now in SE NM, Hispanics (we call them Mexicans here) are in the majority and it is also one of the most Republican voting areas of the country. I think the entire NM-3 Congressional district, which encompasses most of the land mass in the state including the area you describe, has a Hispanic population percentage equal to just about any in the country, and it is not likely to go blue anytime soon.

The divide, I think, is more urban/rural just as it is with the population in general.

Thanks for the explanation of how the term “Mexican” is used where you live. This has confused me, in some of the posts that I’ve read.

In my area, most Hispanics are probably from Central and South America. There’s one little old lady that I encounter who looks exactly like a Peruvian mountain woman. (I live in the East, and I am not familiar with the tendency to refer to all Hispanics as “Mexican”).

Yep. It used to be that conservatives looked at things as they really are whereas liberals insisted on pretending that people act how liberals imagine that they should.

Now the land of make believe is being colonized by our friends.

Never Never Land is a fabulous realm, where impoverished, illiterate, and basically lawless peasants from south of the border are transformed into the heirs of Ronald Reagan by the application of public education incantations and a little fairy dust.

That’s worked so amazingly well in California. Our friends in the other 49 States can’t wait to emulate our success. I have no doubt but that they will achieve the same success we did.

I think it comes more naturally in a border state, even though we still have a good share of OTMs, and many native (US) born and raised “Spanish” folks in TX, NM, and CO.

Things take time. Nothing is built or destroyed in a “day”.
There is time to turn things around. But we have to be optimistic, and not have “glass-half-empty” attitudes.

Being an American, and enjoying the freedom that we still - despite the naysayers - enjoy, is very infectious. I’ve seen enough of this in my neighborhood, to have very high hopes.

What we think we see, is never ALL of what is there.

They tend to have fled from countries that embrace socialism and police-state tactics on the part of the government. In Atlanta, Georgia, I run into a lot of Hispanics, and they are mostly as I describe. They seem to be 'natural conservatives', and if we explain it to them, we may bring them to our side.

I'm not too sure about that. Human nature is the same all over. They may hate the control that socialism brings, but do they want to give up the "free stuff"? The EBT cards, 0bamacare , 0bama phones are all great incentives to stay socialist. Most of the average leftists don't connect those things with the NSA, loss of rights , and identity politics that comes with a leftist government.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, as bad as 0bama et al is, he's still a damn sight better than the crap holes they came from. They'd rather vote for his party than the party that preaches freedom along with responsibility as opposed to "free stuff" and no responsibility.
