Phuket's Provincial Public Health Office sent agents to the condo to collect samples to test for the Ebola virus after discovering the victim, Martin John Roberts Clark, 68, had recently returned from Nigeria.
Phuket Governor, Nisit Jansomwong, explained that the result of the autopsy would be announced today (October 25).
Dr Kajornsak Kaewjarat, chief of Phuket Provincial Public Health Office said that the agents at the scene were collecting blood and mucus samples as well as other belongings from the room.
Dr Kajornsak said, “The samples and belongings will be sent to the Regional Medical Sciences Centre in Phuket.
“He travelled to Nigeria and retuned to Phuket on October 7. There is usually a check for any passengers coming through the airport. However, there were no reports made.
“It is our responsibility to make sure, that’s why we have sent a team to the victim’s house. We want to determine the cause of death,” he said.
Gov Nisit said, “Initially, the Ministry of Public Health ordered each provincial office of public health to monitor and scan tourists travelling from Ebola red-listed countries. If any tourist is suspected of carrying the virus they are put on a watch list, and monitored for 21 days.”

The man is 68 and if he really only went to Nigeria it seems unlikely he died of ebola. But, good on them for checking it out.
Given his age, and what goes on in Phuket, he probably died of exhaustion.
We needed an Ebola humor break. Phuket if they can’t take a joke.
Thai Ping
Nigeria has a very low numbers of Ebola cases ... not likely an Ebola infection... in my opinion.
I live in Thailand - not far from Phuket... and I believe from what I know of Thai Immigration ... should this case somehow turn out to Ebola... Thai visas granted to African countries will cease forthwith... Not just West African Countries...
Thailand has very strict immigration protocols... Wish the concept would catch on in the U.S. Government.
I lived in NE Thailand for 2 1/2yrs a while back, and I agree with your assessment of Thai immigration. They don’t screw around. People who have never been to Thailand do not realize that some Thai hospitals would put American ones to shame.
I wish they’d work harder on solving their STD issue. When I trained there while in The Marines in 97 it was well known that Thailand was the STD and child sex market of the world. Each place has their differing demons.

BANGKOK: A three-year running survey by Srinakharinwirot University revealed that Thai men are the most unfaithful partners in the world, with one researcher citing ‘small penis size’ as a reason for their infidelity.
My first trip there we were doing a MEDCAP down south, the only STD we saw was a young girl who got it from her father. The Thai soldiers working with us arrested him when it was discovered. While both problems you have mentioned do exist, the Thai’s have worked hard to clean up their act.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

Yes it is. Unfortunately they get a bad rep from the bar scene deal, that’s what most people hear about Thailand. It really is a beautiful country with great people.
