You’re arguing “birthright” Southernness, or “ius solii”, against full participation in the culture, patriotism, etc. — as the basis of “being a Southerner/ Son of the South” like Bobby Lee, Shelby Foote, Eudora Welty, Sidney Lanier, or whom have you.
