Relax, North Korea has given us something new to speculate about

By Anna Fifield October 23 

Conspiracy theorists disappointed with the reappearance of Kim Jong Un earlier this month can breathe a sigh of relief. North Korea has provided new fodder for unchecked speculation, wild rumors and frenzied tea-leaf reading.

Citing fears about the spread of Ebola, the world’s most closed state abruptly told Western travel agencies Thursday that it would not allow foreign tourists to enter, starting on Friday.

Never mind that it’s 8,261 miles from Monrovia to Pyongyang. Never mind that North Korea is hardly a major tourist destination. And never mind that no other country in the world has sealed its borders in response to the outbreak of the virus.

Well, this is not really a brainer. NK's public health system had collapsed "totally" long time ago. General population is malnourished. One ebola patient gets through and infects others, this will turn into a wild fire. If hundreds die, panic spread among people, and the NK regime remain powerless, it could potentially upend the regime. From outsider's point of view, that may look overreacting. Considering their public health system, they have good reason to be on guard. They are not taking any chances.

If ebola was to come to NK. the people would try to
eat it, the state would arrest it, and Kim would have
his picture taken with it.

If that happens, the problem called N. Korea will take care of itself. Kim will die a horrible death, along with his regime.

The question is raised. Is this really about ebola or is it something else? I don’t know but, take a look at this. Article opines that Kim has “carried out an extensive purge during his absence” from the public.

Most of the risk to NK is from Syrians, Iranians and Africans (from uranium mining countries). All it takes in one truly infected dude and poof!

Would be interesting to see what if anything is mentioned about Ebola in the North Korean press. Also, if diplomats in the four effected four nations in West Africa will even be allowed back to Pyongyang. Could be a good excuse for them to defect.
