Interestingly, the Dems once thought of this race as a likely pickup for them. They thought they had the perfect candidate. And they did, only she is perfect for Republicans.
As I touched upon in my initial post, the problem for Ithaca democrats (like Robertson) is that their locality is so far to the left that it makes it difficult for them to fathom how far out of the mainstream they are.
They think Obama is a moderate for goodness sake.
So they don’t realize just how difficult it would for them to run successfully in a center-right district.
I also think that this causes problems for the state and national democrat parties because, if they don’t know the above, they see someone like Robertson and think “here’s a democrat that got elected in a rural county, she must have broad appeal.” Little do they realize that Ithaca is ten square miles surrounded by reality.
