Some people are urging the Colorado burrito chain Illegal Petes to change its name because of the way the word illegal has been used to describe immigrants.
The Coloradan reports that about 30 people gathered in Fort Collins Wednesday to ask owner Pete Turner to change the name of the chain, which is about to open an outlet there.
Its part of a bigger campaign nationally against what critics refer to as the I-word. They think using the word to describe a person is dehumanizing.

If I was the owner I’d tell these dembulbs that I was inspired by a Canadian friend who happens to be living in the USA illegally and who just happens to have the first name, Pete.
For Pete’s sake get off my back!

Might want to change it to “Wetback Pedros” which is definitely more acceptable than “Illegal Petes”

If the intention were to offend, it would be named "Illegal Pedro."

I think he should change the name. Crimmigrant Pete’s, Disease Spreading Pete’s, No Auto Insurance Pete’s, Paid Under the Table Pete’s, Home Depot Parking Lot Pete’s...the possibilities are endless.
To: Olog-hai
I think he should just agree that “Illegal” has a bad connotation, and change the name to “Legal Pete’s”.

I think the best approach would be to have something in the name to indicate that Pete is NOT illegal. That his right to be within these borders has UNQUESTIONABLE legality . . .

Turner said the name is a reference to novel he read in college a. . . . . . But those at the meeting likened the name to a racial slur used against African-Americans or hanging a Confederate flag in the restaurant's window. So the name has absolutely nothing to do with immigration but the mere fact that the word "illegal" is in the name is enough to drive the perpetually aggrieved crazy. Put "Illegal" in your title and its exactly the same as lynching a black man.
