The U.S. Department of Justice condemned the leaks Wednesday as “irresponsible and highly troubling” and said, “There seems to be an inappropriate effort to influence public opinion about this case.”
Yes, DOJ leaks the information , while decrying it
as Irresponsible and troubling, in an effort to save
face, and at the same time keep the pot boiling.
This if traced to DOJ is a criminal act in itself.

from the DOJ. All you have to do is look at the attributions in the stories.
Here's the first paragraph of the NY Times story:
WASHINGTON — The police officer who fatally shot Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., two months ago has told investigators that he was pinned in his vehicle and in fear for his life as he struggled over his gun with Mr. Brown, according to government officials briefed on the federal civil rights investigation into the matter,.

The leaks are irresponsible only if a grand juror or the DA or the transcriptionist is leaking. Witnesses are free to ytalk all they want, about their testimony before a grand jury.
So, how does the DoInJustice know the leaks are coming from somebody sworn to secrecy?
