Palin Endorses Independent-Democratic Ticket for Alaska Governor Against GOP Successor
National Journal ^ | 10/23/2014 | KARYN BRUGGEMAN

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin spent the early part of the 2014 midterms traveling the country endorsing conservative candidates in Republican primary races, hoping to leave her mark on the future of the GOP.

But on Wednesday, Palin rebuked her Republican successor in her home state, endorsing independent gubernatorial candidate Bill Walker, who is running on a "unity ticket" with Democratic running mate Byron Mallott, instead. Palin's endorsement goes against her former lieutenant governor, Gov. Sean Parnell, who assumed office in 2009 when Palin abruptly resigned and is embroiled in a highly contested race for reelection to a second full term.

Palin offered the endorsement at a campaign reception in her Wasilla home, according to press release issued by Walker.

Parnell's 2013 restructuring of the state's oil and gas taxes dismantled a prior, Palin-championed program that she considered to be one of the greatest achievements of her tenure. That difference of opinion is at the heart of Palin's conflict with Parnell, which resulted in the two campaigning on opposite sides of a ballot measure in this year's primary.

Parnell dismantled Palin's oil-tax increase, called ACES (short for Alaska's Clear and Equitable Share), by signing a repeal of some oil taxes in 2013 that was intended to curb the state's production decline. But many fear the measure will severely diminish the revenue brought in by the state, where oil and gas taxes have accounted for as much as 90 percent of government funds.

Palin backed an initiative to repeal the new law, SB 21, when it appeared on the August primary ballot, which put her at odds with Parnell. (Palin accused Parnell of being "suckered" by "crony capitalists" at the time.) The referendum narrowly failed, garnering 47 percent of the vote as the state's Republican U.S. Senate primary attracted conservative voters

A purist will vote their conscience and/or stay home if no conservative is on the ballot.

66 2/3 pure! Won't stay home even if sick. There are other offices up for election in this GE.

I’m not sure many people of Alaska still listen to her much these days on topics like these.

A liberal source, sure. But a lot of people just aren't impressed with Sarah anymore. And reports about the drunken brawl have not helped....

Opinion:Sarah Palin's sun has begun to set in Alaska

Gov. Sean Parnell pushed a tax overhaul supported by the oil industry through the Alaska Legislature last year, and this month beat back a ballot referendum effort intended to return the state to its old tax regime. With new tax breaks and incentives, the industry has pledged to invest more in Alaska’s oil fields.

Drill, baby, drill!

Alaska needs to encourage Arctic drilling to exploit the potential of an additional million barrels per day against a background of declining production from depleted reservoirs.

So, why is Sarah Palin against what Sean Parnell did?

A Republican who will vote for a RINO even if that RINO is a low-life, scumbag, p.o.s. like That Cochran or Mitch McConnell.

I guess that makes me an anti-anti-purist, cause I won't stay home and not vote and don't qualify as a purist, according to another poster's definition on this thread.

Oh, ain't gonna vote for Lindsey.

What's an anti-purist? I need to know in order to know whether to be strangely quiet or not.

An anti-purist is one who believes that if you keep making the same mistake over and over again, eventually you will succeed. Doing anything other than that, according to the anti-purist, is poor strategy, emotional, childish, and entering into a tacit alliance with Harry Reid.

Yeppers.

We (correctly) like to blast black voters for blindly voting the democrat ticket.

But what do WE call it when conservatives blindly vote for the GOP-e?

I’d say, she has a good reason to be angry at Parnell. Cutting taxes for the oil companies, kind of like doing them favors, you know, as the citizens pick up the difference. I’d trust her far more than most. Frankly, she’s not trying to win popularity contests or she would be caving in on her principles.

As I understood, the previous tax system allowed the oil companies to simply hold onto the land contracts and not drill at all. Palin changed this system that forced the oil companies to start drilling now instead of holding onto it for decades and do nothing

OH NO! They are staunch rock ribbed conservatives! There were a few on another thread today sympathizing with the woman that regretted not killing her Downs kid at birth.

You know, Solidly conservative values like that and all. And wouldn’t you know it? One was one of the biggest mouths on the ‘purists are evil’ team!

I mean...what are the odds?

So. Are you going to vote for a liberal just because they have an (R) after their name?

Purist understand the 80/20 rule. We do. We know that politics is a compromise and short of Ted Cruz - NOBODY is perfect (lol)

But back to the GOP-e. They are following a 20/80 rule. That is they are right some 20% of the time. And losing ground all the time.

You wanna tell me I should vote for Cochran, Boehner or whoever Rove tells me to?

HELL NO!

Not even close to being the same dynamic.

In no way is a Democrat going to win.

Intellectual honesty is a good thing, try it some day.
