U.S. plans 21-day monitoring of people who arrive from Ebola-stricken nations
Washington Post ^ | October 22 at 10:13 PM | Ashley Halsey III and Lori Aratani

Every airline passenger who arrives in the United States from one of the three West African nations hardest hit by Ebola will be monitored by state and local health authorities for 21 days, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday.

...

The burden of monitoring will fall to state and local health officials, who have legal authority to control infectious disease, Frieden said.

...

"What a logistical nightmare," said John Connor, an associate professor of microbiology at Boston University and an investigator with the university'a National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories....

The article says:

The number of people arriving in the United States from the Ebola-stricken countries has dwindled from an average of 150 a day to roughly 80 a day in recent weeks,...

No, it was still 150 a day on average for Oct 16-20. The main problem with this farce is that the passengers flowing through Kennedy, Christie, Dulles and the other airports are dispersing across the country and won't be met or followed by local health authorities in those destinations.

JUST deny them flight to the US.

Put the burden of detection and quarantine, etc ., at the EMBARKATION point!

How fu*^ing simple can it be?

Unless you are quarantining these people in a facility for 21 days you are letting even one case spread it to others and destroying countless other hospitals.

They WILL have to stop people from that part of Africa coming here on tourist visas. It’s only a question of when, after the election. They are playing Russian Roulette with election...if another case or two gets reported (albeit that’s a big if with our media, but maybe the British press will report it), then it’s game over for them.

Option 1: Deny their visa or entry to the U.S. if their point of origination is one of the countries overwhelmed by ebola. Risk of infection to other travelers, or our citizens? 0.01%

Option 2: Allow them to travel here; take their temperature upon arrival; use the honor system for these travelers to self-report possible exposure; then release them into the general population, while our oh-so-effective and oh-so-efficient government “monitors” them for 21 days. Risk of infection to other travelers, or our citizens? MUCH > 0.01%, but risk increases exponentially with the number of (potentially) infected travelers arriving here.

So option 1 is cheap, and virtually 100% effective. Option 2 will be ridiculously expensive to implement, doesn’t keep the virus from entering the U.S., and only needs to fail in once instance for a wide-spread problem to occur.

Obola hasn’t let us down again - given stark, easy choices, he makes the wrong one yet again.

Abandon erring on the side of caution. Now that’s “change.”

21 days only covers 88% of the imported population’s incubation rate. For the remaining 12%, the Ebola virus incubation rate is documented up to 28 days.

Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

OR You forgot one option! Let them come here-and give them free phones. They can then spend 14+ hours on the phone trying to enroll in Obamacare.... which may or MAY NOT mean they have coverage!

:)

Freeper Dark Wing posted this link to graphs (New England Journal of Medicine) on the ebola Surveillance Thread. From this it’s clear that 21 days is NOT enough to catch all cases.

For the first time, I agree with something which comes out of this sorry excuse for a national government.

Good start.

My comment in the WaPo follows. Please “like” it on their comment thread. This is a new story, and a few “likes” will keep it at the top where thousands of libs will read this news for the first time.

I think that the Obama administration is happy to keep America’s attention on Ebola, a disease we can probably keep from getting out of control with just a bit of luck. What they do NOT want us talking about is the real, present, and ongoing epidemics that came across the border with the Central American children’s invasion that they literally invited and encouraged. Since the WaPo won’t touch this story (at least until after the election), let me include an excerpt from an article today in the Examiner:

“Medical labs testing confirm many of these cases are Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68). The Obama Administration has been working overtime to keep the reporting and narrative away from blaming the ongoing illegal and undocumented immigrant invasion into the country. Media reports show at least eight known deaths from EV-D68 in the U.S. in 2014.

“Perhaps the White House doesn’t want Americans to know that out of over 70,000 illegal immigrant children who crossed into the U.S. almost 48,000 came from Honduras, Guatemala and Salvador. In these countries measles and the EV-D68 virus are quite common. If we include these children’s family and friends, not listed an “unaccompanied,” over a quarter of a million people from Central and South America have entered the U.S. illegally this year.
“From 1970 to 2005 there were only 26 cases of EV-D68 ever reported in America. The number in 2014 is approaching 1,000 cases, with about 10 percent of those cases known to be causing a polio-type virus that has left children crippled.

“Information from doctors, nurses, law enforcement and staff workers at immigration housing and transition facilities exposed enormous fears about the infectious diseases aliens were carrying as they process and care for them. Thousands of these illegal children have been placed into public schools, seen in hospitals, and are receiving medical care, without meeting normal immunization requirements that American children are expected to have.”

It’s almost as if he is bound and determined to allow this disease to establish itself in America.

Of course.

And, I would bet that this has already been accomplished.

It WILL be the “O” legacy.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Obola hasn’t let us down again - given stark, easy choices, he makes the wrong one yet again.

EVERYTHING obama does either:

a) Weakens America/Americans
b) Distances America's allies
c) Strengthens America's enemies
d) Serves Islam
e) Harms Israel
Or some combination of the above.
I have yet to have anyone raise a single substantive counter example in several years of posting this.

Put the burden of detection and quarantine, etc ., at the EMBARKATION point!

No kidding, the magnitude of doing it here is unmanageable and would cost us billions, this would take massive housing resources and expensive, pension laden manpower.

The first three weeks of your American vacation is on the house, paid for entirely by the taxpayers?

And what treatment do you receive while being housed by us medical, dental, special diet, insulin medicine, diapers and laundry service?
