Russia already held that territory, as far as I know, and reactivating old bases is not shocking.

I’m not worried about oil - we have enough here for the next few centuries ... as the price is now ($80+) - it will not be economical for Russia to capture that oil. Their whole economy is predicated on oil above $100 bl.

Do you want to attack them? Start a real nuclear war? What is your solution? Sanctions?

The best solution is just to keep the price of oil below or near $80 - I heard one analyst say it will fall to $40 before rebounding. Those bases will close and be abandoned again, and the whole of the Russian economy and military expansion/upgrading will crash back to 1985 levels or below. That being the case, Putin will fall as well.

All the rest will once again pull back from Russia when it collapses as they did last time. This is Russia’s last pseudo-Communist hurrah.

I did not mention attacking anyone.

Canada needs to establish its own series of military bases in its arctic. Ti do that it will need money ot now spends on social programs, notably Canada’s annual federal budget spends over 50% on universal health care.So where will the money come from? Cuts? Or will BIG OIL trade some of its profit for purchase of federal exploration leases , with the money going to establish thiose NOrthern Bases?

Its a REAL problem for Canada which has not been discussed in public, and it needs discussion, right in Parliament.Which is why several of us are whooping up the issue right here.
