BEIRUT, Oct 21 (Reuters) - The Syrian air force carried out more than 200 air strikes around the country in the past 36 hours, a group monitoring the war said on Tuesday, a rapid increase in government raids as U.S.-led forces bomb Islamist insurgents elsewhere.

The intensified strikes by President Bashar al-Assad's forces will add to the fear among his opponents that the government is taking advantage of the U.S. raids on Islamic State to attack other foes, including opposition groups that Washington backs.

Analysts say the increase could be because the Syrian military wants to weaken rebel groups before they get training and equipment promised by the United States.

Any sane administration would support the Assad regime and put an end to the whole thing in short order. The whole idea of supporting one faction of an insurgency while opposing another, incidentally stronger and more aggressive, is completely whacked.

On our dime.

And it’s still going to require ground troops.

You like Assad because he’s Putin’s boy.

I would arm both groups and let them kill eachother off but leave Assad to rule what’s left to keep the islamists in check. There are no good guys. Onlybad and really bad.

I don’t believe there are all these other friendly terrorists groups. I believe they are bombing ISIS. We’re just being told there are all these other groups to cover for our mistakes and to keep pumping arms into the mess.

The “rebel groups” (good terrorists name used by our politicians and the media) may wear a different jersey but they’re all in the same league.

Well, it wouldn't be a mass murderer. I understand why supporting mass murderers is easy for you. You're a Russian. You and your people have a long history of supporting mass murdering tyrants. No wonder you're so comfortable with Putin; he's even a slight improvement over the normal Russian tyrant.

Sorry, hombre, I really appreciate your concerns but haven’t asked for an abstract lookdown lecture.

I have asked a simple question instead and you seems like lack any answer.

One wonders if the MSM will notice that while the US + it’s allies put together a few airstrikes here and a few there, against ISIS, in 36 hours Assad smacks his enemies with 200.

Assad is not using precision bombing, and he is trying to kill civilians to force them to allow him to remain their dictator. It’s a tad bit easier to indiscriminately murder noncombatants. It’s really the difference between al Qaeda and the US.

No. What you actually did was shriek insults at a fellow FReeper in a thread-destroying emo torrent.

Here's an example of what I mean, couched in terms you might understand.

< elhombrelibre school of historic and contemporary fact.

Your gay boyfriend - Obama - tried to depose Assad using a false flag operation. Your gay baby-murdering bodyfriend funded the Syrian rebels and then let them run rampage over Iraq. You love Obama because he is pro-ISIS, and so are you.

/elhombrelibre school of historic and contemporary fact.

Do you see how unhelpful that was?

Supporting Assad would be insane.

The allies in the region want Syria gone. They are far more important to us than an Iranian surrogate of Iran

We “like” Assad because he is the one force who can confront and defeat ISIS on their own brutal terms, unlike the pussy-boy in Washington DC

the enemy of our enemy should be our friend

I don’t think that’s true at the moment, given the alternatives to Assad. A vacuum in Syria, right now, would leave our “allies” staring into a black hole of chaos and brutality right on their borders- not that there is such a thing as “borders” anymore

and if our “allies in the region” are so important to us, how has Obama shown our support and appreciation to them?

you over think the problem.

there will be no vacuum. there will be retrun to pre 1918 disruption.

History is a process, not an event. It takes time

The ordinary people of Syria tried to depose Assad. Assad began mass murdering them. At every turn Putin supported Assad to thwart the emergence of a non-aligned nation in Syria. It’s not an insult to point out that the poster I was writing to is a Russian, is in Russia, post repeated pro-Putin propaganda on this website. And Russia’s historically like murderous dictators. That’s simply the truth.

ISIS has taken over large swaths of Syria and Iraq and we can only find a few targets to hit each day?
