The US Army was never able to develop anything like the Shilka. They tried with the Sergeant York system which was an unmitigated disaster.
I agree with you.
I’ve read that as is usual they tried to put to damn much stuff into the Sgt. York weapon system. Pick a task and work on it to make the system as good as it can be for that task. Then and only then do you look to see what else it can be made to do.
Unfortunately, politicians get involved in weapons building and want a weapon that will do everything half-assed and nothing well.
