Eric Frein sightings: How 'wilderness ninja' has outfoxed 1,000 cops
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | Oct. 21, 2014 | Patrik Jonsson

Two fresh sightings of alleged sniper Eric Frein has resulted in more closed public schools in northern Pennsylvania and a shift in a massive manhunt to near where Mr. Frein went to high school – and where he was a member of the high school rifle team.

The pressing question of how a single man has outmaneuvered 1,000 trained law enforcement officers in the Pocono Mountains for over five weeks suggests that Frein has used a home-field advantage, long-term planning, and survival skills to resemble a “wilderness ninja,” a term some use to describe a rare breed of native scouts who can, in essence, morph into shadows.

But while true native scouts are bulwarks for good, Frein has “gone to the dark side,” says Shane Hobel, the founder of the Mountain Scout Survival School in New York’s Hudson Valley.

“This guy is on a totally different parallel [than a native scout] but it is a parallel,” says Mr. Hobel. “That makes him a dangerous individual, and the fact that he’s got sniper capability makes it even more dangerous.”

Do they really think this guy is a threat to any school?

Has he ever threatened any school?

How he outfoxes the cops? He avoids the donut shops.

The cops may be letting him slip to get info on anyone who is helping him. IIRC when they got Eric Rudolph (Olympic Park bomber) they also indicted a number of other people.

If that’s teh case then they are keeping a close but not too close eye on him.

sniper capability?

A 500 yd shot is a pretty good shot. A 1000 yd shot is a great shot.

Shooting from the dark woods into a lighted building from 100yds is not “sniper capability”.

Since 140 FBI “Special” Agents couldn’t find him it’s comforting that they are back to tracking Jihadis here in the homeland.

I think police are enjoying their fat overtime paychecks too much for that. They (the PSP) have already requested an additional $10,000,000 for the PA state legislature to fund this manhunt.

He sure has put a burr under the cops saddle hasn’t he? The last I read they canceled Halloween and the parade in the area.

IMHO if this guy wanted to kill more people he would have done it all ready. I doubt if he is even in the area anymore.

The sightings are probably hunters. Small game and archery deer are in in PA. Yea they aren’t supposed to be hunting but die hard archery guys aren’t going to be kept away from their favorite tree stand.

If that's the case, I'm guessing that he's being observed 24/7 by drones with cameras with high optic and thermal capabilities. Hiding from a large number of people in the field is probably a lot easier than hiding from an unseen eye in the sky with the ability to see in the dark.

That's what all the hub bub is about? Man sized target at 100 meters? I'll put 28 rounds rapid fire into that all day long.

Right now, they’re searching near a school because a woman claims to have seen a man walking nearby it, holding a rifle and with mud covering his face.

Watch it be a cop or a hunter she saw.
