Top Liberian Official Tells City Council Air Travel Ban Would Only Make Ebola Crisis Worse

he growing cry for a complete ban on air travel to those countries most stricken by Ebola prompted an emotional plea this past week in Philadelphia by a top Liberian official. She says a ban would be “a death sentence.” City Council members heard from Gurly Gibson, an official at the Embassy of Liberia in Washington, D.C. She said her country’s situation is dire and that officials believe a halt to air travel would only make things worse. “It is going to be a death sentence, just thinking about halting all flights going in, because it will only escalate the problems,” Gibson said. “We need airlines to go in, to be able to take in supplies to those countries. If not, its going to spread, its going to get worse and more people are going to die.”

Restricting flights is not the same as a complete travel ban.

Restricting Incoming flights.

We'll remember these little games the authorities are playing if this thing gets out of control.

He is saying what Obama is thinking: isolate this disease to west Africa and the civilized world won’t care. Spread it to the civilized world and it will either be cured, or will at least hurt the civilized world. In the third-world, anti-colonial mindset, either outcome is a win.

here’s my question, why is he talking to anyone in Philly about it? Did we just have some sort of Constitutional change putting the Philly city council at the head of American government?

Don’t care about restricting flights going IN to Liberia (or West Africa). Our concern are the flights coming OUT of W. Africa and heading to the US. THERE’S THE DEATH SENTENCE.

Exactly.

Commercial flights should stop.

All private flights could stay in place on a strict requirement on who is going in and who is going out.

Anybody ever read how immigrants were processed on Ellis Island? They were quarantined and/or sent back if they had infectious diseases.

Soon hundreds of thousands from the infected African regions will be in everyone's hometown, so advanced teams of Liberian officials need to speak with and plan out the mass migration with your local leaders..

It's for our own good. I'm sure you understand.

She only wants their exit left open. The more out of Liberia, the better for her. Hate to tell her but the more it spreads in the US, the less healthcare workers will be available to go to Liberia.

A good example of too much education putting a whole nation at risk, how can they stand that on their consence?

The target audience is folks with a typical IQ range of 85 to 95. Typically the difference between “in to” and “out of” is far too difficult to understand.
