Giving up tax exempt status is no freedom. You should know that.
What do I know ?
The same "common sense" that you do.
There isn't such thing as a "free lunch".
The U.S. Government (like all others) uses "free lunces" to control states, institutions, companies, religious charitable corporations, and people.
The U.S. Government's "free lunch" (financial gift) to church corporations is AKA IRS 501-C3.
Most Christians are in complete denial about this. It raises painful and ugly questions.
Questions about "personal greed" and that troublesome scripture "Thou shalt have No other gods before Me".
Now, a question for you ... and the clock is ticking ...
Jesus Christ paid His FULL taxes to Rome ... "Render Unto Caesar".
Is the church you attend "better/smarter/more cool/more entertaining" than Jesus Christ ?
Give us just "one" reason "how" your Christian Church is justified (scripturally) to NOT pay it's FULL taxes ... when Jesus Christ COMMANDED you to.
Don't worry about that "ticking clock" phrase. I apologize for being a wise guy.
because neither you, your pastor, Senator Ted Cruz or Rev. Billy Graham ...
will be able to provide the "scripture" (above) that I asked you for ...
because it ain't in the book.
Case closed.

The case is not “closed.” The scripture says, “Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s”. The founders of our nation closed the book on what things are Caesar’s, and it included the power not to tax churches for their profession of faith. They knew that the power to tax is the power to control. We know how the power to tax can give one citizen special tax exemptions for their behavior. When that power is being used to control tax exemptions for their First Amendment right to speak, that crosses over the line. The use of the IRS to control the freedom of speech of the citizen is an unconstitutional application of power and we damn well be fighting that use of power. We are not fighting that fight if we give up freedom—the freedom from taxation by the churches.
