Tom Lehrer once joked that the Army does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion or ability. I found the truth to be quite the opposite. I turned out to be a gifted staff officer, and as a second lieutenant I filled a captains slot down at the motor pool.
I had exceptional support. My motor NCO was a black E-7 from the old brown shoe Army who came to us from the big motor pool in Saigon, and he said, LT, you follow my advice, and Ill make you look good. I did, and he did. I was cited by the Deputy Commanding General of Fort Lewis for having the best motor pool on base.
So what were you up to?
Cue the Rockumentary theme!
This band was Motowns Funk Brothers backed with pickup musicians from the Detroit Symphony.
This was Eric Carmens big break. From his Julliard background and his love of Rachmaninov, you can hear the tonal misdirection. The intro, the opening line and the rest of the song are in different keys (A Major, G Major, E Major).
