Ebola nurse Nina Pham's condition is downgraded from good to fair

Ebola-stricken nurse Nina Pham's condition was downgraded to fair on Friday, according to doctors at the National Institutes of Health.

The 26-year-old nurse, who contracted Ebola while caring for Thomas Duncan at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, was previously described as being in a good condition on Thursday.

According to the American Hospital Association's scale used to describe a patient's health, a 'fair condition' is listed as worse than a 'good condition'.

Dr Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said at a briefing outside the Maryland hospital on Friday that Miss Pham was in a 'fair, stable condition and resting comfortably'.

He did not describe further details of her condition due to patient confidentiality but said she still had Ebola symptoms.

Dr Fauci denied that Miss Pham was deteriorating adding that she is sitting up, talking with staff and eating.

Miss Pham, 26, broke down in tears on Thursday night when saying goodbye to her doctors in Dallas

Dr Fauci added that the nurse is getting 'optimum, intensive care' but said she is extremely fatigued because Ebola 'knocks you out'.

The doctor described the nurse as 'a trooper' adding that she was being cared for round-the-clock by a specialized team of doctors and nurses.

Unfortunately, instead of money directed towards the problem at hand for medical necessity,
we'll probably see all sorts of peripheral lawsuits & siphoning of funds to other areas courtesy of this "Czar" …

He no longer has a license as a physician. He had one in Georgia but it has not been renewed. Apparently he may have had one in New York but it is no longer active. So you’re right. He is without a license to practice law. Not sure why the media are referring to him as doctor.

Not a problem. The new senator from Massachusetts was a lawyer there for almost ten years but never renewed her out-of-state license and never got one in her new state. She lied about being an Indian and the first nursing mother to pass the bar.

Lying and practicing medicine and law is the latest thing in this administration.

Why have we heard nothing about Duncan’s family since they were whisked away to the gate community? Pham, a nurse who followed protocols is ill, but Duncan’t shack-up and the other people who were in the apartment are not sick? Something is not right here....

I heard that with Ebola, sometimes a person appears to get “better” and then takes a turn for the worse. In Miss Pham’s case, she received a blood transfusion from Dr. Brantley. Even blood transfusions are not always helpful in treating Ebola, but in this case Dr. Brantley had the additional antibodies in his blood deriving from the ZMapp he received - which may very well be why Miss Pham is still alive and recovering - albeit slowly.

I pray that she fully recovers.

DD, that was very perceptive.

I believe they can use experimental treatments at NIH that local hospitals cannot use.

Brilliant political cartoon. Those three panels say so much. Let’s hope it goes viral.

I get the impression that authorities are very reluctant to admit that patients under treatment aren’t steadily improving. Afraid it’ll add to the “panic,” I guess?

Exactly....she could be at death's door and they would say "she's doing great". Hell, she could be dead and they would try the "Weekend at Bernie's" schtick for as long as they could.

CDC blew all the money allocated for Ebola equipment and training.

Per a report in the news today:

"The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has spent more than $39 million on obese lesbians, origami condoms, texting drunks, and dozens of other projects that could have been scrapped in favor of developing an Ebola vaccine."

The dem government blames repubs for cutting money for Ebola. The truth is that more money than asked for was given, but it was diverted and wasted. On such things as obese lesbians and origami condoms (huh?)!

Origami condoms? I’m not even going there, although the jokes could write themselves.

I also read about some study that involved monkeys throwing pooh. No, I’m not kidding.

As usual, the government funding is totally misused. The things it should be used for are ignored.

Only 57 facilities worldwide can handle BSL-4.
