What is our comparable helicopter? My son was in charge of maintenance for a squad? of Apaches for a while.

There is no comparable helo. The old original UH-whatever gunship with the 4 M-60 and later 2 mini guns could conceivably carry a few troops.

Apache and Cobra could only carry themselves into the air. They were a far more focused aircraft, which I think the Russians figured out with later gunships.
