Nurse may have had symptoms of Ebola longer than first thought

Are you on the front lines of Ebola? We'd like to hear your story.

A nurse with Ebola may have shown symptoms of the virus as many as four days before authorities once indicated, meaning that she might have been contagious while flying on not just one, but two commercial flights, officials said Thursday.

Amber Vinson was hospitalized Tuesday, one day after she took a Frontier flight from Cleveland to Dallas. Tests later found that Vinson -- who was among those who cared for Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the United States, at Dallas' Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital -- had Ebola.

Authorities indicated Vinson had a slightly elevated temperature of 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit, which was below the fever threshold for Ebola, but didn't show any symptoms of the disease while on her Monday flight. This is significant because a person isn't contagious with Ebola, which spreads through the transmission of bodily fluids, until he or she has symptoms of the disease.

But on Thursday, Dr. Chris Braden of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told reporters in Ohio that "we have started to look at the possibility that she had symptoms going back as far as Saturday. ... We can't rule out (that) she might have had the start of her illness on Friday."(continued)

Big uh-oh. I’m not worried about catching Ebola...yet...but the implications of what this could do to our struggling economy under resident Obola are very frightening.

It’s only a “low probability” though, right Barry? LOL! Fools fooling around with Ebola is going to get a lot of us killed.

This is crazy. We are being told small drips of information when the bottom line is two planeloads of people may be seriously screwed in addition to random people in the airports.

We are as bad as the third world when it comes to dealing with this and the CDC and white hut are still telling us not to worry?

Insanity rules.......every time I log on to Free Republic I get to see yet another complete fiasco screw up up...

...every freaking day ...morning noon and night 24/7 screw ups.....and we got another 2 and a quarter years of this absolute nonsense....

The only hope is that the low information voters are taking note....and a growing community of African Americans are starting to realize that the view from under the bus sucks.

end of rant.

Frontier now says it is notifying up to 800 passengers total, a figure that includes those on last Friday's Dallas-to-Cleveland flight, the return flight four days later, plus five subsequent trips taken by the plane used in that last flight.

Now imagine how many contacts those 800 people have had.

I apologize. Keeping up with this is like herding cats. My prayers go out to you at the epicenter.

We’ve got the biggest Liberian population here in Mpls./St. Paul - 30,000 people - and we’re not on the lame screening list! Patrick Sawyer was supposed to be here in August.

This affects all of us. Words can’t convey the anger I feel towards the 0bola administration and the evil they are purposely afflicting on us.

Time to act like a Republic and have the states rejecting flights. I don’t have much hope for that in Minnesota, but I hope Perry does it for Texas. I know..it’s a bandaid for a big bleed out.

Megyn Kelly was saying tonight on her show that Amber, when she flew to Cleveland, did NOT go very close to family members and did not hug and kiss them..so she knew, in the back of her mind she knew this was a bad idea and she went anyway. I was thinking, she went to that bridal shop and tried on dresses, they have to get in contact with those who tried on those dresses after her, skin on skin contact, you have sweat, skin, that is how Ebola can be spread. Also, I think if this woman were already feeling “Bad” before boarding the flight to Cleveland no way would she have arrived back with 99.5, she would have arrived in a body bag

What I want to know is WHY was anyone who treated patient zero allowed to travel by commercial anything during the incubation period. This is insanity

Years ago during smallpox outbreaks (because my mom and grandmom told me the stories) entire households were quarantined and not allowed in or out until the disease had run its course. Food would be delivered and left a distance from the front porch. No human contact was allowed at all.

This thugocracy is out of their league

CDC is slandering the girl. Do you believe them or the nurse who called the CDC with her symptoms before getting on a plane?

For God’s sake think! They tried to slam Pharm also. With Bambi it is always someone else’s faults. As many times as CDC has lied I cannot believe you believe them over the nurse who called 3X before she got on the plane.
