MURRAY U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell said Wednesday that concerns about the global spread of Ebola are great enough that the United States should halt flights from countries affected by the disease.
Im not an expert on this, but it strikes me that it would be a good idea to discontinue flights from that part of the world, he told Pure Politics on Wednesday before he attended a meeting with leaders at the Briggs & Stratton plant in downtown Murray.
McConnell also said he agrees with President Barack Obamas decision to send 3,000 troops to Africa to help fight the disease and contain it.
About 1,400 U.S. troops, half of whom are based at Fort Campbell on the Kentucky-Tennessee border, are headed to Liberia this month, according to the Leaf -Chronicle in Clarksville, Tenn.
McConnell said he has been briefed on the troops safety.
I have been told this can be safely done. And we all know we have a huge stake in containing this disease where it is, McConnell said.
In the last week, a man died in a Dallas hospital after contracting Ebola during a trip to Liberia. Two health care workers at the Dallas hospital have tested positive for the disease, including one nurse who recently was on a domestic flight, raising fears about spreading the disease, according to ABC News .
McConnell said he has not spoken to the White House or officials with the FAA, which would have a hand in shutting down air traffic from West Africa. McConnell, who is in the last month of his re-election campaign, noted that Congress hasnt been in session.
He said calling back Congress to deal with Ebola would be up to the president.

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
I think the airlines themselves will stop letting people from those affected nations board their planes. Infected passengers mean their planes then get grounded for indefinite times (but not before I read that one plane made 5 other stops unloading passengers and picking up new ones.
Mitch needs to change his panties. This is republican leadership?
Gee, Yertle, you being a US senator and everything we were kind of thinking you might do something yourself, instead of just kvetching like a chinless bitch.

Yet Obama wants to the National Guard over there to “build” decontamination centers and makeshift hospitals. When I first heard this I though great he’s going to send a huge number of soldiers over there and they’re all going to get infected then come back home and spread it even faster. Hasn’t he already done enough to bring the U.S. to it’s knees...now this!
Stupid mf is just ate up with normalcy bias. I daresay that I hope he loses to that stupid chick Allison whatshername, it would be worth it.
Congress oughta already be back in session on their own removing someone from office on grounds of insanity.
