On a quick read, I couldn’t pick up why 60% was required. In other states, medical marijuana was a majority vote. What did I miss?
That Florida is a constitutional amendment, whereas I don't think Washington and Colorado's were.
That, or different states have different rules.
Ambulance chaser, John Morgan, and his people, in an attempt to help Charlie Crist get votes (dem GOTV), decided to make this voter referendum a constitutional amendment. In order to become an amendment to the Florida Constitution, the voters need to approve it by at least 60% of the vote. A simple majority will not make the cut. That is Florida law.
